liveinabin #1 Posted October 25, 2004 God damn! I actually saw a game right through to the end! And what a game! Knights of the Old Republic is just awesome! I finished it as a goody-goody lightside Jedi, though I'll leave it a few months before playing through again as an utter bastard. Now, it goes without saying that I'll be buying KOTOR 2 in December but this leaves a whole month without an Xbox RPG!!! I'm thinking of getting Morrowind (Game of the Year edition). Anyone rated of hated it? And, if not, what else is there?
doubledown #2 Posted October 25, 2004 I bought that the day it came out and played it non-stop untill I beat it. I can'r remember how long it took. I wanna say about 30 clock hours, but that might have been another RPG. I always said that I'd go back and be the super ass-hole from the dark-side, but too much work. moycon #3 Posted October 25, 2004 Personally I wasnt carzy about Morrowind. It's just too too much. The amount of time and effort needed to see that game through is outrageous. If I was ever stranded on a desert island, that's the game I would want for sure. Unfortunately I just can't devote the kind of time needed to complete that game. Plus I wasn't really crazy about the combat in Morrowind, might have made it funner if the combat wasn't so floaty. I'm playing Fable right now. It's a different experience than KOTOR, but so far pretty satisfying. Give that game a try if you like games with quests and leveling up.
Fretwobbler #4 Posted October 26, 2004 I never played the Xbox version, plenty of hours spent playing Elder Scrolls III on the PC though, and I can vouch for one thing... The amount of time and effort needed to see that game through is outrageous. If I was ever stranded on a desert island, that's the game I would want for sure. Moycon knows what he's talking 'bout! PuddWakkr #5 Posted October 26, 2004 I think I've logged more hours in Morowind than any other game ever. It can be pretty intimidating when you first start but if you give it some time it turns into a great game. You can do anything in the game. I actually heard of a guy who was playing as a thief character and every house he went in to he stole a piece of table ware. Everytime he went back to his house in Balmora he would drop off his goods. Over time he accumulated so many forks and spoons he couldn't even walk around in the house. Yeah I know not very engaging gameplay stealing spoons but it's cool that if you want to be a pillow thief you can. The actual storyline and quests of the game I enjoyed immensely. But it takes some serious time invested to play through it, especially GOTY edition which I'd recommend for some bugfixes that are in the original and platinum edition. Also liked D&D heros. Cool RPG that's not too time consuming.
Major Havoc 2049 #6 Posted October 26, 2004 You can finish the main quest in Morrowind in about 50 hours. If you start doing some of the really cool side quests though, it can EASILY be a 100+ hour game. It's amazing how much freedom you have in Morrowind and how your actions affect the world and the people around you. You'll get your money out of Morrowind, that's for sure. Dones #7 Posted October 26, 2004 @liveinabin: Congratulations! KOTOR is a great game. Gotta tip for you: (SPOILERS AHEAD) You remember the stage where you meet with Bastila and she tries to seduce you to the dark force? (this is almost at the end, takes place in an island-type place). If you saved a game before this conversation, you can reload it and say you will help her when the question shows up. This will automatically switch the story path from light to dark. This point is still somewhat far from the end of the game, but at least you won't have to play through it entirely.
liveinabin #8 Posted October 26, 2004 really/ very cool indeed! Thanks
bradjewell #9 Posted October 26, 2004 @liveinabin... the same friend that recommended KOTOR to me, tried to play Morrowwind after it and just didn't really enjoy it.. I guess he wished it was more KOTOR-like... Im playing KOTOR right now.. love the game.. got about 5 hours into it.. I tried to pick up morrowwind earlier this year, and i just could get into it... It's way to immersive... If i had a lot more time i might enjoy it more.. the traveling sort of kills the mood for me though.. I have Morrowwind and the guide if you or anyone would like to trade for another game.... Brad
Clock #10 Posted October 26, 2004 Livinabin, are you on Live yet? If so have you downloaded the extra content for KoToR? Here is all the RPG's I own on Xbox and brief verdict. Morrowind is a very PC style RPG in the traditional sense. It's big, complex and takes a lot of dedication. Not really suited to console, but if you put the effort in the rewards are great. Fable is excellent, slightly shorter than KoTor but very easy to enjoy. Arx Fatalis is another game which is interesting, but again it's very much a PC style of game. Azurik is a very basic form of action RPG, a lot of magazines slated it, but I really liked it, although I never completed it (got about half way) Baldurs Gate is very good and like KoToR it disguises it's RPG elements quite well allowing you to enjoy the game. Shenmue II is a much loved game by many and although not strictly a RPG it plays similar to KoToR where you have to talk to lots of people to get through the story. Its a bit Marmite - you'll either love or hate it, but I think you'll love it. Phantasy Star Ep 1 & 2 (online) - Quite good, and ineteresting. Supposed to be better online but you only get 60 days of freeplay and then it's £6 a month. I never bothered taking it online so I don't know. And you still got Jade Empire, KoToR 2 and that Lord Of The Rings RPG to look forward to.
liveinabin #11 Posted October 27, 2004 Thanks Clock. I've played PSO to death on DC (and a bit on GC) so I'm done there now. As for Baldurs Gate. Hmm, I always felt the console BG was almost exactly like playing Gauntlet. Didn't feel much 'role playing' there. What I liked about KOTOR wasn't the combat (although it was great) but the story, characters and interaction. Shenmue was pretty cool (but again, played all those). I don't reckon I'm going to be able to put in the time to get the most out of Morrowind then (heck, I have trouble devoting enough time to Outrun 2! ) so I might just hang on till Kotor 2. Jade Empire looks a winner, being Bioware aswell. If it fights more like KOTOR and less like Soul Calibur, I might get that. Haven't looked at Fable too closely... hmmm.. good characters? good story? I'm not mad keen on the design of the graphics but I won't damn it for that. As for now, I'm playing KOTOR again, and being nasty as hell. Not quite as much fun 'cause I'm acting out of character but interesting none the less.
Lyreaxiose #12 Posted October 27, 2004 I beat, originally I was good, but then at that pivoting point at the end, where I chose Despot of the Galaxy or Savior, I choose despot! It gets kind of boring to play it over again, since the only real difference with Darkside is the ending cutsceen, and the first before last boss.
Dones #13 Posted October 27, 2004 Actually there are a few minor differences in how the story plays out, for example: (SPOILERS AHEAD) If you choose light side at the "pivot point": * When you meet Bastila again at the battle ship, you have the option to kill her or persuade back into the light side. This doesn't affect the ending much, except that you will either see her (or not) at the end celebration. If you choose the dark side: * When you get back to your ship and announce the news to your crewmates, you can kill Mission. What's better yet, if you have high persuasion skill you can order Big Z to do it for you! * You will fight a group of dark jedi instead of Bastila as a test from Malak. liveinabin #14 Posted October 27, 2004 Really? Oh, that is SO wrong I'm pretty bad-ass dark at the moment. Just killed that cat-faced Jedi (can't remember her name, though she saw the game through to the end on light side). I could never kill Mission, much less have Big-Z do it for me. As for Bastilla - no way could I kill her, for one thing, she's too damn handy with that double blader to dispense with and, alright, I fancy her as well - god I'm so sad!!! bradjewell #15 Posted October 28, 2004 heres an qestion for you all playing or have played KOTOR... im right now playing through (dark muwahaha) and have heard you had to fight bastila.. i figured you would before i heard it.. just the way she was acting.. i was wondering, if you had saved before this battle or something.. couldnt you totally remove all her items before she left your party.. just curious.. Brad
moycon #16 Posted October 28, 2004 A couple of other games that might interest you liveinabin, Syberia and Syberia 2. Good story, gameplay is kinda slow though. Think point and click adventure. I do wish they had made that chick be able to walk quicker, she just kinda meanders around, but the story is pretty interesting. I actually haven't tried part 2 yet, but I imagine it's more of the same.
Dones #17 Posted October 28, 2004 liveinabin, maybe you should check out Jedi Academy. It's not rpg-ish but it's still a good action game. heres an qestion for you all playing or have played KOTOR...im right now playing through (dark muwahaha) and have heard you had to fight bastila.. i figured you would before i heard it.. just the way she was acting.. i was wondering, if you had saved before this battle or something.. couldnt you totally remove all her items before she left your party.. just curious.. Brad I guess you could but have never tried it. They point where she leaves and where you fight her are far apart. You only fight her when playing the light path so I don't it wouldn't apply to your situation.
moycon #18 Posted October 28, 2004 couldnt you totally remove all her items before she left your party.. just curious.. Mmmmmmmmm naked Bastila. *drool*
Clock #19 Posted October 28, 2004 It is possible to get Bastilla to run around in bondage style underwear. I remember doing this in the tatooine desert. Also I hear that if you play a male character you can sleep with her at some point in the game. I'm not sure how/when it's done as I played through it with a female character.
liveinabin #20 Posted October 28, 2004 No, the best (or worst) you can do is kiss her, and it's all tastefully done, the screen blanks out, the scene drops back in with her saying "Oh dear... that was a mistake" You played as a female then? I couldn't do that, knowing that I'd end up hitting on Carth - eughhh!!!!
Clock #21 Posted October 29, 2004 I never hit on Carth - I avoided that. I often play female characters in games if possible - Means you got something better to look at while you play.
liveinabin #22 Posted October 29, 2004 Yay! I'm absolutely dark side now. Shit! My character has lost all of the color in his face, he's just veins and yellow eyes. Bastilla is in tow cleaning up all the morally wrong fights I'm starting and I'm keeping Mission along just to see how much we can corrupt her
