Thoughts on GTA:SA

I am also finished.

I completed it a couple hours ago.........with codes which I had a fun time using.

Code free baby...though I used all the scam strategies I could.

Hint: fire engine missions aren't as tough as VC (nor as easy as 3) and probably worth it.

Ditto Ambulance, which is darn easy at Angel Pine (though for both fire and ambulance, I had a weird habit of hitting mission cancel by mistake)

Not sure about Vigilante.

Maxxing out your money and gun skills, both easy and probably worth it.

Don't worry about respect. And don't worry about not claiming neighborhoods...there's a time when you'll have no choice.

I have pretty much perfected my neighborhood takeover technique. Let me know if you want to hear it :-)

Yes please tell us! Congrats on finishing the game. I'd also like to know why you feel the fire engine missions are worth doing. Also can you tell me if you ever get to gamble in any other casinos?

Yes please tell us!  Congrats on finishing the game.  I'd also like to know why you feel the fire engine missions are worth doing.  Also can you tell me if you ever get to gamble in any other casinos?

There are certain missions where it's very useful to be fireproof, where you have to be in areas with lots of flames.

Didn't gamble hardly at all. I made millions on the horses, and would've liked to play a good game of blackjack but couldn't find a table to start with. (Annoying, that)

My Favorite Technique for Block Takeover:

(helps to max out your gun skills to hitman levels by "target practicing" on a car's tires)

-get a bunch of grenades, an AK47, and, optionally, a Micro-SMG. And of course armor

-go to an enemy area, look for enemy gang members standing in bunches and start firing...I like to use the Micro-SMG because I can run away quickly if someone starts hitting me from behind

-hopefully the gangwar starts

-there are 3 waves usually of 2 or 3 clusters. As each wave emerges, RUN AWAY from the clusters, give your self room. You're a one man army, you don't always have to stand and deliver...

-As clusters run toward you, hit 'em w/ the grenades. Then use the AK47 to sweep up survivors from a distance

-obviously keep an eye out for heart and armor freebies

The nice thing about this technique, besides it being pretty successful (at least vs Ballas, haven't mesed with the other ones much) is that it pays for itself if you pick up ammo for your guns...then use the money on grenades, that's the only seperate purchase.

The main trick is to use the map, use a decent distance but auto-aiming weapon like AK47, and don't let yourself get surrounded. Sometimes you have to hunt down stragglers.

I'm only about 50%, I've been doing taxi missions in my souped up bad ass taxi, lots of fun. I have to take breaks or I'll get burnt out, plus I got some new consoles I've been playing.

Do you ever not want to not finish a game cause its so much fun, and you dont want it to end?

Is it me or has anybody else, hardly used the police bribes. I think I may have used 2 ?

Code Free..............Respect+++++

I'm sure the firetruck missions helped you alot on the last level!

I just ran through shooting any guys in the way and punching in the health code when needed.

I might play it again without codes........

I think I used exactly one, there's a mission where you have to steal some motorcycles and one was really obvious. Usually they're just too much hassle to bother with.

Huh...police bribes were REALLY useful in Vice City...I wonder what changed...because come to think of it, I barely used Pay N Sprays either! if I had to guess, it seems like fewer missions revolve around popping up your wanted level. Or are the police less dangerous for most of it? I'm not sure. Maybe the area is so big the Pay and Sprays and Bribes are further away than just running ...

Well, I didn't want to risk any spoilers by saying WHY it's useful, but yeah, that's largely it. I don't know how long it would've taken me to learn to beat that level without it...I never got very good with the extinguisher.

The police in SA are a lot less forgiving than they were in VC. Even with a 1 star rating you can get shot to pieces if you're not in a car. That coupled with hardly any police bribes or pay n sprays makes having a high wanted level, and survivng, pretty tough.

I'm currently claiming neighbourhoods to trigger the last mission and once that's done I might spend a couple of weeks playing through the odd jobs.

I'll be joining the crowd sooner than I thought. My sister just gave me an early Christmas present tonight. She bought a Playstation 2 for me and it's hooked up to my TV right now. If nothing bad happens, I'm going to buy GTA: SA the first week of December (instead of having to wait until February 2005). It won't be long before I'm no longer a GTA: SA virgin.

Something has definately changed with the police, its subtle though. they are more agressive at lower levels than before, super agressive at high levels. I think they are just dumber sometimes, and some times gang of em' will show up at one star and mow you down. Its easier to run on foot though.

Has any body got vigilante mission 12, I'll never get gold at the flight school, to get the "Hunter"? Whats the best vehicle for this? I havent tried it yet.

In order to get CJ up to 100% fatness, I invoked a strict "no running" policy and put him on a diet of 11 beef stack meals per day. When I hit the maximum fat level there was a popup that told me to go to the gym because being fat gave me an increased chance of a heart attack.

Is it just saying that, or can you actually have a heart attack? As soon as I got him really fat the controller started randomly vibrating every once in a while. Is that a warning that he is about to keel over?

I guess compared to all of the other things that can happen to you in San Andreas, a heart attack would not be such a bad way to go.

Thats what I did for one of my CJs. His fat is maxed, he has no clothes except his underwear, he has a blonde afro, he is wearing those glasses with the big nose and stuff, and he never runs. He always uses the jetpack. I heard if you run/sprint, he will vomit. I never heard of the heart attack actually happening. I always wondered about that when it popped up and said it.

I finished today, altough not the 100% yet.

doubt I ever will get 100% cos I can't do that stupid R.C plane mission. Which sucks, as I am a damned good stunt plane pilot, and can fly it upside down all the way to first airport, and then flip over to land safely.

I won't get gold in all the schools, altough I might make it in pilot school, and probably will in boat school.

currently I am silver in all schools.

The Leviathan helicopter floats, but I guess you all know that right?

Apparantley taxi's are heavier than armoured secrutiy vans! In the mission Up, Up and Away!

I decided to try and pick up a vehicle with one occupant, and drop it from a great height.

It was almost impossible, I could not gain any altitude. Altough I did end up in the farcical

situation, of having my 'copter towed around the city by a taxi. Kindat like "water skiiing".

It's not possible to pick up an airborne copter with the dockyard crane, the winch will

move through it, it's possible after a long time, to cause damage to the choppers by ramming

them with the crane. You can, on occassion pickup manned cop cars and drop them in the

dry dock, and they explode. Pretty pointless really, except that it lets you clock up

a long 5 star chase score, i.e infiltrate the naval base, as the alarm sounds, drive promtly to the crane,

enter it, and stay there until boredom overcomes you.

Oh, and a glitch that I have tried to repeat - I stole the Sandking by the radar station near the

airstrip hideout, and it had hydraulics. It's only happened once, i've not got it to repeat.

You can do an extra insane stunt, by jumping off mt.chiliad in the downhill bike race, and opening the chute, if done right, you will re-enter the race, with the chute open, you can then paragalide off of the mountain.

I notice the odd stats too.

Like, there is a jump way up on a mountain, you leap across water. Well, I customsied a Clover, and used nitro, and boosted the whole lenght of the run-up.

The lenght of my jump, was only about 10 metres longer, than my best jump in Vice City. ButI was going faster, and the ground was a bout 1/2 a mile below the tip of the ramp, i'd have thought i'd have cleared about 300metres, not just 130m

I slowly came around to the idea that the RC Plane mission isn't quite as bad as people make out. It's all about your gunmanship, getting the kill as efficeiently as possible...I didn't try that trick of landing or anything, just plotted a decent route and went to it.

I haven't started GTA:SA yet, but I was at a friend's house last night and he's played quite a ways through it. He specifically mentioned this one mission as being quite tough to complete. :)

Oh, absolutely, I'd put it as one of the top 5 toughest missions in the game...but it's gotten a bit of a mythos around it as "damn near impossible" and "why god why" but when I really focused and thought about what I was doing I got it in a few tries.

Heli Hell is one of the races that are triggered from inside the Las Venturas airport runway area, a red spot there near the entrance. (It may be marked w/ a flag on the map I'm not sure.) The actual race starts from Los Santos airport, though it warps you there automagically.

Heh, anyone play the Xbox version of VC? The vigilante mission was just as easy, but the 'copter was super sturdy, almost nothing could take it down.

I couldnt find this red spot, I looked around pretty much the whole airport. Are you sure something doesnt unlock it?

I've got a memory doubler (Interact) and was trying to move/copy the game over to another card when the Memory Manger Plus locked up and rendered all saves 'corrupted'.

Since I am too far along to even consider starting over again - I was hoping someone here could upload a mission save close to where I was at when this happened. I just finished 'Ice Cold Killa' and was starting 'Pier 69'. Money, side-missions, clothes, etc don't matter - just get me somewhere close...hell I'd even be happy starting in Las Venturas.

I've got USB Flash drive support (MAX Drive from Datel) that allows transfer of saves to a USB flash drive. So basically PS2 game save would be copied over to USB drive and transfered over to PC and uploaded...

Thanks for any/all help!
