Gabriel #1 Posted October 28, 2004 Is the recent Battlestar Galactica game (any platform, but PS2 version comments probably have more weight) any good? I've seen it around for $20. For reference, I adore the Ace Combat games. I enjoy the recent Star Trek: Shatterred Universe game. I don't really like the Colony Wars games or the Star Wars Starfighter games, but Jedi Starfighter can be entertaining if I'm in the right mood. According to the preview of the game in the Battlestar Galactica series box, the game uses a more classic look of Galactica than the ugly reimagining in the current TV series. Does the game follow the classic story or the remake? This is a deal breaker for me. If it is based on the remake, I definitely don't want it.
SteveW #2 Posted October 28, 2004 It seems to be based on the remake, although magazine articles about it before it was released said it would be based on the classic show. It follows a young Adama in his early years. I had finished playing Star Trek: Shattered Universe, and I was hoping for something similar, but it's not. The controls aren't as good as in ST:SU. But the graphics are much better.
ubersaurus #3 Posted October 28, 2004 I'm actually not sure what show is based off of, since it really doesn't seem to follow the flow of either storyline. Not that it matters though-blowing up cylons is a universal appeal, and much as I've seen so far, the look is definitely leaning more towards the older series. It's fun, though hard as hell. The missions where you take point on the galactica's guns can be a pain. If it helps, there's a code that they aired back on the galactica miniseries that lets you have Apollo and Starbuck from the OG series as your wingmen. They got Hatch and Benedict to do the voices, as well, and they help bring the difficulty down a bit, due to the fact that they are badass wingmen. SteveW #4 Posted October 28, 2004 I remember seeing something about that code on a station break in the mini-series. I didn't have the game at the time to try it out, though. Actually, I didn't have a PS2 to play the game on, either. I'm going to have to break out my videotape of the mini-series and look that one up!

I think all the codes they ran are on gamefaqs, if you don't feel like searching the tape
christianscott27 #6 Posted November 1, 2004 i'll have to give my second hand review to it. being a BSG fan from way back i was pretty excited to give this game a try, even drop $25 on it. then i caught that tommy/victor show on G4 and they really pooped on it. i know, i know you cant always trust reviews but as a fan of the genre i took note of some huge red flags. bad AI, nuff said. the other concerned the control and feel, they said it felt like a bad click and shoot game, you were just moving a targeting cursor around with no real feel of motion or range...that right there made me and my money stay back. GrizzLee #8 Posted November 1, 2004 I bought BSG as I am a huge fan of the series. The game was a big disapointment for me. There several things wrong with the game's implementation on several levels. First and formost, the storyline. And while the gameplay is OK, it falls very short for a next gen console. One of my biggest dissapointments is that the gameplay isn't any better than Colony Wars on the Playstation. In fact, I still prefer Colony Wars over any space battle sim I've ever played. The graphics are nothing significant either, especially, when compared to Colony Wars on the PSX. BSG is an OK game in it's own right, but calling it BSG for the sake of marketing was a bad move. If you own a PS and are looking for a good space fighting sim I highly recommend Colony Wars and Colony Wars II. Admittedly, they are a bit hard, but damn fine games... two of the best in this genre. christianscott27 #9 Posted November 2, 2004 not to sidetrack too much but i'm really fond of the G4 reviews. no i dont always agree with them but the fact that they can show the game being played while reviewing it blows anything online or in print away! my cable system lets you watch their archived shows on demand so i often use it when seriously considering a purchase. short of actually playing the game its as good as it gets. i kinda like the fact that they do lots of pooping on games, i'm like that too, i tend to be an unforgiving gamer over certain flaws. I've always been preferential to X-Play, because they have their whole reviewer staff come up with a rating, not just 2 guys. Plus Adam Sessler is the shit.
