New PS2 owner has questions

Got an 60gig Maxtor in mine.   FTP huh. Care to tell me more?  At present I'm playing swap the HD, and using WinHiip 1.6.3.  

 

I should probably sit down and read some of the documentation I've downloaded. Got about 75 megs of docs & utilities.  Other then WinHiip and ADR Patcher 0.5, haven't look at any of it.    

 

I'm not at the house so I cannot give exact info (like program names), but basically the way it works is I boot up a program (thru the memcard exploit) that loads an .elf file that lets you remotely execute .elf files (Yeah I know, weird).

 

You then use another program (on the pc) to send the .elf to the playstation 2 to execute. Then you put the PS2 cd in, run hdl_dumb/hdl_dump, give it your ip settings for the PS2 and it will send the game over. I think the transfer program is part of hdl_dumb (I just forget it's name).

 

In your case if you have a mod-chip you can probably set up a CD with the needed programs on it and execute from there. The difficult part is getting the IP config file set up. The documentation does a lousy job of telling you where the file should be.

 

I literally had to experiment in order to get it to work.

 

That is why I'm considering getting a flip-top because the recent hd-advance supposedly lets you put "backups" in, and there is another .elf that will let you play PSX "backups" with an r9.

Thanks for the offer, but not just yet. I enjoy trying to figure out stuff myself. I only needed somone to spin me around to face in the right direction.

 

Thanks to a nice japanese language website found via google, I think I found out everything I needed. Some specific how-to-ftp docs, and all the latest ftping software for pc & ps2 sides.

 

(Thank goodness for Japanese & French websites!)
