ClassicBoy #1 Posted November 1, 2004 I'm sure this has been covered before. The last thread I found on this is over two years old, tho. I'm hoping to get a fresh approach on this. I have a Gamecube and an Xbox. My kids have a PS2. Up until now, 99% of the games have been bought by my kids for the PS2. Lately, I've been thinking about picking up the new PStwo for myself to add to my own collection of systems (you know, a ps2 that the kids can't knock around, scratch, and kill within months). My question is this...What are the best games for the PS2 that can't be found on the other two systems? What are the exclusives that make it worth owning a PS2 over the other systems? I've answered this myself for the Gamecube (Zelda, Mario, etc.) and XBox(Halo, Sega's titles, etc.) but can't seem to figure out PS2 exclusives make the system worth owning. I'm not slamming the PS2 but am genuinely seeking which games I might pick up if I get a PSTwo. Help.
Scooterb23 #2 Posted November 1, 2004 I only have 2 recent PS2 games, but they're both great. Katamari Damacy Hot Shots Golf Fore although I'm not a fan, most seem to like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Although you are looking for exclusives...I perfer the PS2 versions of some of the extreme sports games like SSX and Tony Hawk, because I think the controller is best for those types of games. If you are an RPG fan...I'll defer to others...
Stingray #3 Posted November 1, 2004 IMO the very best PS2 exclusive is Jak & Daxter. Jak II is pretty fun too, but not as much fun as the original. I'm also a big fan of Gran Turismo 3, GT4 is scheduled for relase this month I think. Even though I just picked it up, I feel pretty confident in recomending GTA: San Andreas. There's a huge amount of fun to be had with that one. -S
+-^CrossBow^- #4 Posted November 1, 2004 Jak And Daxter series...since Jak: 3 comes out this month...and I do plan on getting it... Also the Ratchet and Clank series is supposed to be good. I actually haven't played any of them..so I don't know. Katamari Damacy (Just get this game already...trust us on this!) FFX (Haven't played FFX-2 yet..so I can't comment on it) Disegea (Semi hard to fine and expensive to boot) That is actually all I can really think of right now off the top of my head. I am sure there are other exclusives and games released on multiple platforms that are better suited or play better on the PS2. Tak games come to mind..but I am still working on Tak2 which I have on my Cube..so I will wait and see after I see more of it...
NE146 #5 Posted November 1, 2004 There is only one current PS2 game 'must have' at the moment... Katamari Demacy. The other ps2 game must haves for me are more personal for me.. so they probably might not apply to you.. i.e. Space Invaders 25th Anniversary Collection with the commerative controller. R-Type Final. etc.
Stingray #6 Posted November 1, 2004 ...since Jak: 3 comes out this month...and I do plan on getting it... Thanks for the heads up on that. I had no idea a new one was coming. Adding that to my "must get" list. Also the Ratchet and Clank series is supposed to be good. I actually haven't played any of them..so I don't know. I've only played the second one, and I got stuck really early on. I was glad I only rented it. The game suddenly changes from a platformer to a fast reflex space ship shoot-em-up. I just could not get past that part. Too bad, because the platformer part was lots of fun. Katamari Damacy (Just get this game already...trust us on this!) Everyone keeps saying how great this game is, but I've never seen it for sale anywhere. I'd pick it up if I could find it. -S
xenomorpher #7 Posted November 1, 2004 Currently Im playing GTA SA alot because it is sooooo big! And not to mention that theres a lot of stuff to do and places to see. Jak and Daxter games are fun, Rachet and Clank, Sly Cooper is a nice one, Resident Evil Outbreak I thought was fun , Time Crisis lightgun games are very good, Half Life is nice and has a CO OP side mission called Decay that (I think) is exclusive, Kinetica is pretty fun futuristic racing game, Ico is nice, Legacy Of Kain Soul Reaver 2, Killzone is coming out, and if you like Metal Gear games (some dont but Im glad because it makes me feel special but some like Splinter Cell I think is a total knock off mission based game but the creator of Metal Gear said if anyone likes Metal gear Impersonation games then play them), Silent Hill 3 is freaky as heck, and Final Fantasy game are supposively good but Im not a big RPG fan... +-^CrossBow^- #8 Posted November 1, 2004 Crap...I completely forgot about the Sly games!!! Hell yeah! those are must have's. Both the first and newly released second Sly games are a must for the PS2 owner. Especially sly2 which really throws a lot of different genres at once in them. However, I liked the hacking part of the first game more, and got bored with them in the second game. In case you don't know what I am talking about..the first game has a very brief section towards the end where one of your characters..(Bentley) has to hack into a computer. The game suddenly becomes an arcade style shooter that is very much akin to Asteroids... In the second game there is a TON more hacking sections...which were fun at first..but they are just the same style arcade like action and that gets really really old. It would have been better if they borrowed arcade elements from several different game types for the second game. Oh well...the added fun of having to use all the characters in the second game is way more fun anyway. I still haven't seen or played ICO yet. I see it all the time used, but I can't bring myself to pay 17.99 for a used PS2 game when many games can be had brand new for 19.99. Oh well..I am cheap that way I guess. As for Katamari Damacy, this is one of the examples of why I keep OKGE (New name pending soon...) in Tulsa. All the gamestops and even EB reported having several copies of this game available. I got mine at the Funcoland (Gamestop) at Eastland Mall here in Tulsa. They had like 2 copies and I got one of them. Since then, almost all of them have ordered more copies since the demand has been fairly high for a quirky game of this type. So, I would check your local EB Games, or Gamestops for a copy of it. You can also order Katamari Damancy from Wal-Mart online and they still show it as being a new item in stock. It shouldn't be impossible to find that game in our neck of the woods... xenomorpher #9 Posted November 1, 2004 I would check EBgames.com to just look at the games. Dont pay attention to reviews because they are all made by 12 year olds and dont include their emails so they dont get any hate mail. Cowards!

I'm in Tulsa and can't run down a copy to save my life. Must be bad timing on my part. I guess I'll try again. Thanks for the encouragement. Oh and I agree with your assessment of Sly Cooper, that's another really fun one. (I still haven't played the second one). Is Sly a PS2 exclusive? ICO is one you really should buy it's well worth the money. -S
NE146 #11 Posted November 1, 2004 That's very curious. I'm in Tulsa and can't run down a copy to save my life. Must be bad timing on my part. It doesn't take timing... Just use your phone. Call up the places and ask them that way. If they don't have it usually they can tell you if they expect more copies (if any).
Stingray #12 Posted November 1, 2004 Ah, but that would require advance thought on my part. This is how I usually buy a game: Step 1: Get in car after work Step 2: Thought crosses mind that I could use a new game Step 3: Drive to whatever game store crosses my mind first Step 4: Buy whatever they have in stock. You're right of course, I should make a couple phone calls. -S
JB #13 Posted November 1, 2004 You need Robot Alchemic Drive.
+-^CrossBow^- #14 Posted November 1, 2004 And you need to ask about the game. From what I have heard abroad..the game isn't really being put out on the shelves in plain site. I guess because there are so few copies? Anyway, I picked my copy of at the Funcoland as I mentioned. I checked online and they were showing then as having 3 copies on hand..and None on order or on the way. So I went ahead and drove down there. I looked at the PS2 new releases..and there is the game..just sitting there. I take the empty case to the counter..and they produce a new sealed one, with no price stickers or anything on it from a locked cabinet below the register..and I walk home with a new copy of KD. I checked a few times since then and all the Gamestops at least were showing they had a copy or two avail. Let me check again... Okay..just checked the gamestop online site and they show the Funco at Eastland reports as having 4+ copies on hand..with no more on the way now. Same for the Gamestop on Riverside drive and 91st area. The Gamestop at Woodland (Used to be called Software ETC...) shows 1 - 3 copies with more on the way. And I didn't know you were in Tulsa Stingray? I thought you were out in the boonies?! Anyway, that is what they currently show, I suggest you call them and see. Also call the new gamecrazies that opened up here about 3 months ago and see if they have it. Vintage Stock won't..as they didn't even know about the game...but I recommended it to all of them...hehe. If the online page is incorrect and you can't really find it..then again, I suggest getting it from Wal-Mart.com as you an order it online from there. I have never seen the game actually for sale in any of my local Wal-Marts here..but they do list as having it avail to order online...
Stingray #15 Posted November 1, 2004 And I didn't know you were in Tulsa Stingray? I thought you were out in the boonies?! I work in Tulsa, live out in the boonies. Thanks for doing all that research I'll have run over to gamestop at lunch tomorrow. -S

ubersaurus #17 Posted November 1, 2004 Exclusives, as in, overseas versions don't count, right? Space Channel 5 part 2(on the SC5 Special Edition pack) R-Type Final Rez Gradius V Katamari Damacy Shinobi(hey, I liked it) Oni Mobile Light Force 2 Fantavision (this wasn't half bad) WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain I admittingly haven't played a whole lot of PS2 exclusive games, but those ones were pretty damn fun. Hell the first 3 are the reasons I bought a ps2.
ClassicBoy #18 Posted November 1, 2004 HEY, Thanks everyone!!! That really helps. Sounds like I should run out and buy a copy of Katamari Damancy regardless. There are quite a bit more "must have" ps2 exclusives than I thought. Thanks!!!
