Flojomojo #1 Posted November 8, 2004 I just played my first game of SNES StarFox in a long time, and forgot what a great design that game had. I'd love a good 3D space shooter on a handheld. DS seems uniquely suited to this kind of game -- weapons, tactics, and analog control on the bottom screen; main action on the big screen on top. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. Maybe DS is the right place to pull off a mass-market Battlesphere?
moycon #2 Posted November 8, 2004 And lets not forget the 2600 version of Star Fox!! I'm sure you'll agree the DS would do it justice.
Flojomojo #3 Posted November 8, 2004 Moycon?? What the hell is that?
NE146 #4 Posted November 8, 2004 Aaah the good old 2600 Starfox Anyway I would love to see NINTENDO Starfox on the DS. I really hope it happens. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. Well.. it sorta has. Remember GBA Star X? Too bad it kinda blew. Or Iridion and Iridion 2 kind of offers 3d-ish shooting. The 2nd one is better though (but still not exactly great)
King Atari #5 Posted November 8, 2004 I'd certainly hope the DS would pull off a StarFox that was just a little more graphically sophisticated than the SNES game . StarFox 64 would probably be a good choice.
Flojomojo #6 Posted November 9, 2004 Yeah, I know about Star X. It sucked, but could have been better with some Miyamoto love. Iridion is more of a top-down Raiden-like game. What I really want is TIE Fighter, but let's not get carried away, right?
Jasoco #7 Posted November 10, 2004 I think a Starfox and Starfos 2 DS game would kick ass. It's another port I would gladly pay for. Especially if it's both games in one. PLUS, I think it'd be neat if they also included the Beta of SF2. I really want a new StarFox game on modern consoles that DOESN"T HAVE WALKING LEVELS! The new upcoming StarFox pisses me off. There is walking levels in a STARFox game! WALKING! DAMMIT, NINTENDO! If I wanted a futuristic space shooter where you walk, I'll play Jet Force Gemini. A game I got bored of really fast back in the day. So you see how fast I'd get tired of the new one. I can live with a LITTLE walking, but if that game has a lot of walking, I'm walking. I want a StarFox game with more flying and shooting. I still damn Rare to the depths of hell for that stunt they pulled with Adventures. I think it would have been more of a success and less of a Fuck You, Nintendo had they kept the name "Dinosaur Planet" and kept the characters they had. The formula was all wrong. They could have even gotten a success had it been called say.. Jet Force Gemini 2 or something. Bah I say. But back on track, yes, I'd really love a Mario 64 DS-esque post of the original SF games. Like totally. The DS could totally pull it off and well, co-op mode, anyone? Take on the roles of the other teammates. Kick ass! Four-player Star Fox Co-Op! To dream.. sega saturn x #9 Posted November 13, 2004 Well since nintendo is so port happy im sure one will come to the ds fairly soon. I think they can do better then the snes one which i kinda hard to play now.
Jasoco #10 Posted November 13, 2004 I think a perfect port of the originall would be if they did it with SF64 style graphics. More than a simple port, but a whole remake. Either way, I hope some sort of Star Fox makes its way soon.
Shannon #11 Posted November 21, 2004 Does wing commander count?
Flojomojo #12 Posted November 21, 2004 IMHO Wing Commander is the only space shooter worth talking about on the GBA. I like Prophecy despite the talky boring cutscenes all over it -- WC 1 would have been a better port. I like the arcadey style of Starfox better though. Dones #13 Posted November 22, 2004 I was just talking about this game on a similar thread. WC: Prophecy for GBA looks like an early PS1 game. It's not perfect (gba just doesn't have enough buttons for all the necessary in-flight actions) but is plays very good. I think they did an excellent job cramming a CDROM discs worth of content into one tiny gba cart.
Flojomojo #14 Posted November 22, 2004 I think they did an excellent job cramming a CDROM discs worth of content into one tiny gba cart. Most CD-ROMs don't even have a CD-ROM's worth of content on them either. I take your point though ... this GBA game looks as good as the PSone version, and doesn't have all the loading to worry about. You know a GREAT space arcadey shooter? WCIII on the 3DO. Tons of all-star FMV, some blasty action, and no loading like on PC or PSX.
