liveinabin #2 Posted November 17, 2001 Definitely a 2600. yeah, you can play its games on a 7800 - but you can also play em on an emulator - its not the point. For the real feel of those old Atari games, there's no substitute for the real thing (may I recommend the original 6 switch wood-panelled model)
Junie #3 Posted November 17, 2001 I would highly recommend you get a 2600 Atari 4-switch or Atari Junior. The Atari 6-switch is hard to put in some of the games, for example the newer games with Red Labels and some of the Silver labels. Of course if you can always get a 7800 later. For example I have 2 2600 6-switch and 1 4-Switch and 1 7800 system. Why would I recommend a Atari 2600 over a Atari 7800? The 7800 doesn't seem to play the 2600 games as well as a actual 2600 system, video wise-- not to mention the 7800 can't play a few of the 2600 games at all. Not to mention there are 1000 - 1500 Atari 2600 games, possiable more not counting pirated games (No one knows the actual count, people are still making 2600 games, and old games are still being found, proto types). The Atari 2600 has a total of 40 games I think it is. The bottom line is get a 2600 Atari 4-switch or Atari Junior for your first system, then later when you can buy another system get the Atari 7800. Alex #4 Posted November 18, 2001 James Bond 007 is very hard to find boxed. If you just want to play the game, I'd wait for a loose cartridge, as you'll end up paying a premium for this one. A loose cart will probably only cost you around $15-$20. I haven't seen many boxed copies for sale, much less shrink-wrapped.
james #5 Posted November 18, 2001 I'm fairly new to collecting Atari games & just found this web site. I have a couple of questions: Which system is the better choice: 2600 or 7800? Also, I was wondering what would be a good price to pay for THIS AUCTION on Ebay. The rarity is 6, so it's pretty scarce. It was one of my favorite games back in the early '80s and was curious if there was a big premium on packaged games. I plan to just open it up, so would I be better off buying it loose? Thanks for your help!
MattyXB #6 Posted November 18, 2001 Hello James, The 7800er is better, because you can play near all 2600er games (only ca. 3 not working), and you can play all 7800er games. This games JAMES BOND 007 is a bit rare, I have this not and this is NTSC only. Maybe over US$ 50 - 100, I think. Matthias
rasty #7 Posted November 18, 2001 Also, james, if you plan to get a Cuttle Cart, the 7800 will not work with it. You'll need a 2600.. Rasty.-
Atarinvader #8 Posted November 18, 2001 James Bond is NTSC only? I wondered why it was so elusive to me my PB collection... Maybe I should put a bid in....
james #9 Posted November 18, 2001 Thanks for all your help guys! I think I'll go with the Atari 2600 Jr. (since it seems to sell a bit cheaper on Ebay), and a loose Bond (although there aren't any up on Ebay right now). Since I plan on just ripping it open, I'll leave the sealed copy for a collector who'll keep that way.
