Countdown to Metroid Prime 2

Recommended Posts

Who else is excited about this? The countdown's on boys, and this can't come quick enough IMO.

I've played through the demo once or twice now, and this is going to be as good as it should be. This sequel is promising to bring some sweet additiions to the original GameCube killer app. I'm excited about the multiplayer, the new world and some pics I've seen of a huge boss, that's like 50 stories tall.

Has anyone else seen the screen shot below with Samus' Light Suit? Man, this game is going to be crazy

Hadn't seen the light suit before.

...

But the dark suit has motorcycle wheels on the shoulders.

The game looks cool, but being the cheap bastard I am, I'll be waiting on this one. Unless it supports the broadband adaptor for some kick ass system-link multi-player (deathmatches suck when you can see your opponents screen, takes away what makes it fun)

Coming from the 2D Metroids makes me think: multiplayer Metroid!?!?! How can this be?!?!? Ha ha Just kidding. Actually it will be fun to see how it shapes up. Now if Big N just loosens up a bit more and give people multiple control configs.... nah, I am asking too much.

On a related thought: Will people compare Prime 2 with Halo 2?

Of couse people will compare them. But its apples and oranges. I prefer Metroid Prime, but get a friend over for some co-op Halo, it doesnt get much better than that

Christmas for me on this one, but, I've got Wizardry 8 to finish before anything else, so it's all good. This game will be THE killer app on the GCN, period. Always and forever, I am a Metroid fanboy.

In my latest copy of EGM the reviewers game Prime Echoes two 9's and a 10. The two who gave it a 9 mentioned the lack of a deep plot and some problems with multi-player battles. Nonetheless, aside from any quibbles they all said the game was damn good and even better than the first. Good things mentioned: much more cinemas, better graphics engine, more enemies and bosses, and good use of the dark and light worlds.

They better all be short!

It really burns my ass that "deep plot" is even considered a valid category on which to judge games. Since when does any game Metroid have a deep plot? I'd be pretty pissed off frankly if it had a hyper involved and complex story. 'Course with the movement toward making games that are really just low budget interactive movies, I'm not surprised the empty heads at EGM think this is a bad thing.

Multiplayer looks intriguing to me. I would expect it to be less than perfect, though in my mind this is just a bonus for us all. I wouldn't guess that anyone has any intentions of buying Metroid because the need some kick ass multiplayer deathmatch, it's the main game we're all pining for. If anything, the multiplayer is likely here more to give us a craving for Hunters on the DS

I'm asking for the same thing. I'll pass on MP2. Maybe MP3 will get rid of the lock on.....nah, I'm asking too much as well.

I played Prime at a friends house and I have the same complaint. I liked it but the control config just was almost gunvalkyrieish in its confusion and lack of fixing to better suit me. Aside from that, it wasnt the trainwreck I thought moving a 2d franchise to 3d would be. Although I am dissapointed at the lack of configurable controlls in the new one, I will have to play it when he buys it and then judge for myself.

Yeah, I'm pretty anxious for it to. It's one of only two games I've ever pre-ordered. Go on, somebody go ahead and guess what the other one was.

I'll even give a big hint: It's also a Cube title.

I've seen the ads on TV as well. It shows a woman walking in what appears to be an alleyway and slowly transformed into Samus pieces by pieces.

Doesn't that dark suit with the wheel look simliar to vehicle in Robotech (or Mosapeda for the anime anal)??

I have been excited about MP2 for months... but I have been thinking I should wait on it until I either get it for Christmas or the price comes down.

Of course, now that the release date is almost here, I am thinking I just need to line up and fork over a Grant right away!

(I guess that means I have less than 48 hours to finally beat Meta-Ridley and finish up the original MP! Fat chance... I've really hit the wall on that one. I can't even muster the energy to try to finish it. I got 100% of the pickups. Are the little bit of exploring after Meta-Ridley, and the final battle [or 2] with Metroid Prime, really worth the effort?)

I DID IT!!!!!

Holy crap... just a few minutes after that post!

I fired up MP one last time, bound and determined to finally beat the bastard, and I did!

...thanks to a tip posted on GameFAQs.

Here's how I did it:

1. DO NOT use any missiles until Meta-Ridley's wings are burned off.

2. Fire the plasma beam at him until his wings burn off.

3. Once he lands, lock on with the wave blaster and DO NOT STOP until he's dead. If you start at him with all 250 missiles (like I did), you'll have just enough!

It was actually pretty easy once I had my game plan down.

I got past Meta-Ridley too,bu using the same tips. Now I'm having a devil of a time defeating MP...

I had trouble even GETTING to Metroid Prime. I realized that I'm better off just running from the Fission Metroids rather than trying to kill them. (I just have to watch out not to fall off the platforms into the orange phazon... by the time I get back up there are so many Fission Metroids around that I might as well just give up!)

So... I gave Metroid Prime a shot once just to get the hang of its tactics... ugly bastard! I get the whole color changing thing... that's clever (and the Fission Metroids are a nice warm-up for that... if I were to bother fighting them!). I don't know what else awaits me with MP yet though, because I didn't even TRY to actually beat it yet.

I finally beat MP a couple weeks or so ago. Yeah, don't bother with the fission metroids. Avoid them as best as you can and head directly to the door to MP. All they'll do is wear you down and you'll need all of your energy tanks for Prime.

I can't wait for MP2 although I probably won't buy it right away (as tempted as I'll be). I'm still saving my rupees for Zelda Four Swords...

:)

I think I'll do just the reverse. I'm only about 2/3 of the way through Wind Waker right now, and I want to finish that before I go for Four Swords. So I think I'll get myself MP2 (since I'm all pumped up for it now), but maybe I can get someone to shell out for Four Swords for Christmas.

By far the easiest way to deal with the Fission Metroids is with Power Bombs. If they enter the blast radius they'll be destroyed without splitting in two, and there's no point in saving them anymore at this point.

Oh, and the other game I pre-ordered was Soul Calibur II. :)
