Trip_Cannon #1 Posted November 14, 2004 Personally I'd have to go with Contra 3 for the SNES. To me it epitomizes what Contra games were and what they were to become. My friend believes the honor should go to Contra: Hard Corps for the Genesis. Now although I like Contra: Hard Corps and admire it for its wild innovation and technical aspects, it came off kind of goofy with the addition of a wolf and midget robot along with levels where a dancing robot throws cars at you (first level) or you're running away from a giant robot. Basically I think Contra 3 is a cleaner more refined game overall. What do you think? You can choose any Contra, even those crappy PS1 versions. I wish I could add a pole with all of them listed including the arcade versions but I guess I don't know how...
Dones #2 Posted November 14, 2004 I say it's difficult to decide which one is best. Genesis Contra is imo right up there with SNES Contra. I would choose SNES Contra to be the best one, but Hard Corps is by no means a lesser game. Hard Corps is an excellent game too. The Genesis limitations on color pallete makes Hard Corps a tad uglier than Contra 3 but to judge it inferior just on that would be unfair. The game features some of the best effects seen on the Genesis console. Like in Contra 3 some of the stages surprise you, eg. the parallaxing highway when fighting "deadeye joe". The extra characters seems kind of goofy but it's okay. The game is a lot harder though. Maybe this is what makes SNES Contra a better choice.
MegaManFan #3 Posted November 14, 2004 Original NES Contra rules, especially the more sophisticated Japanese version that sadly got cut down for US release.
