Being that GTA:VC and GTA 3 both did very well on the Xbox, I would venture to say it's very probable but not any time soon.

Dropping this title on the XBOX is a no-brainer for Rockstar, they already have the GTA engine in place. They most likely have a 3 month or more exclusive deal with Sony until they are allowed to release it on any other platform then PC.

I'll tell ya, for a long while GTA:VC was the only real reason I didn't totally ditch the PS2...then it came out for Xbox, but soon after there was Magic Pengel, Eye Toy, and Katamari Damacy, so now I don't quite so ripped off by it.

I didn't. Actually, I "bought" one, mostly because I didn't want to wait for the xbox release whenever that maybe.

I read that R* said that it was only coming out for the PS2 and PC this time and it will not make it to the Xbox.

They also said the same thing about GTA:3 and GTA:VC. Which did come to the xbox as soon as Sony's exclusivity contract ended on them. No reason to believe anything different this time around.

 

Is it just me, or is this starting to read just like the other GTA:SA-XBox thread?

Just like with the last two, the Xbox version will probably be a little better. I'll probably end up owning it for both systems once I get both systems. I plan to get a Playstation 2 and GTA: SA in February and an Xbox (or an Xbox 2) later in the year. When the Xbox (or Xbox 2) version of GTA: SA comes out, I'm sure I'll get it since I love the Xbox controllers and having a better version of the game will be nice.

I believe the exclusive agreement expires at the end of 2004. I expect R* has people working on the xbox port now so it can be released as soon as possible in the coming year. Don't care for the GTA games personally but to each his own.

I got the Xbox dualpack as a Christmas gift despite having 'em both for PS2, wouldn't have bought it myself, but after owning 'em on both systems...I'd say my first instinct was right. The controls are nicer, the cars are shinier, the fingers look better, there were some tweaks (the military helicopter on the Xbox was wellnigh indestructible) but overall I'm not going to get Xbox GTASA for myself. Unless it becomes cheap, ~$20, and I'm in the mood to play through the whole game again at that point.

Heh, when I bought my PS2 the only good games were Oni and Bouncer. Nowadays though.. there are *TONS* of great games for the PS2, not to mention, you can play all those PS1 games on it as well.

Apparently its part of Rockstars contract with Sony that they're not even allowed to announce the game for any other console for a certain period of time. PC doesn't count because it isn't in direct competition with the PS2.

It all depends on how long Sony has the exclusive for - I would bet at least 3 months, but 12 is more likely. I would bet Rockstar has almost finished making it on Xbox already.
