FireTiger #1 Posted November 16, 2004 I did a search and didn't find a how to set up and be sure you are buying all the stuff for an intellivision. What do I need to set up an intellivision? (own all three atari console types) What are common good games for this system? Any nifty gadgets I should look to get for it? (adaptors for atari, trackball ect)
elviticus #2 Posted November 16, 2004 The power supply is hardwired in, so are the controllers. The RF cable is too, I think. When I got mine I just had to get an adapter from radio shack so I could plug it into the cable. You could also use an Atari switch box I think. Most any Imagic game is really good for Intellivision, and most are pretty easy to get. One of my favorites that's harder to find (but worth it) is White Water. Some of my favorite Mattel games : Space Battle, Night Stalker, Star Strike and Burgertime.
elviticus #3 Posted November 16, 2004 Oh yeah! Nifty gadgets - I'd definitely get the Intellivoice and B-17 bomber. Both are easy to find and B-17 Bomber is such a cool game.
SteveW #4 Posted November 17, 2004 If you're getting an Intellivision II model, then the controllers do detach. Too bad I don't think any company ever made replacement controllers for it...... If you're going the Intellivoice route, get Space Spartans too. It should be dirt cheap to find. When I was using Mac OS 9, I used to have the ship's computer voice saying "Hello Commander, computer reporting" as a Startup Sound. Some of the better games are also the most expensive to track down. Thunder Castle, Diner!, Tower of Doom, Hover Force, etc. don't come cheap anymore. But they're all great, and as far as i'm concerned, worth the price. If you're looking for more common games that are fun, try Tron Deadly Discs, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (Cloudy Mountain), Star Strike, Astrosmash, Burgertime, Beauty and the Beast, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and . . . . . drumroll, please . . . . Utopia.
Susuwatari #5 Posted November 17, 2004 If you're getting an Intellivision II model, then the controllers do detach. Too bad I don't think any company ever made replacement controllers for it...... Replacement controllers for Sears Arcade were available and they do work with Inty 2. Defiantly get AD&D, I probably spent more time with that game than all other Inty games combined. Utopis is also a lot of fun if you can get 2 players. Think of Sim City's predessor.
SteveW #6 Posted November 17, 2004 I meant something along the lines of trackballs, that kind of thing. Wico made replacement controllers for quite a few consoles and computers, it's a shame they didn't do the same for the Intellivision. I would have liked a 'meatier' controller. SteveW #7 Posted November 17, 2004 Oh, one more thing. See if you can locate any INTV clip-on joysticks. They make a lot of games easier to control.
FireTiger #8 Posted November 17, 2004 clip on who? please explaine clip on joysticks.
elviticus #9 Posted November 17, 2004 The Intellivision controller is a disc that you push on in the direction you want to move. Not the most precise thing for arcade type games (IMO). I don't have any (wish I did), but I think the clip on sticks attach over the disc and are little joysticks which push the disc for you and offer more precise control. vintagegamer89 #10 Posted November 17, 2004 Welcome to the Intellivision family. You'll find that playing Intellivision is much more fun ( sorry guys, i'll be awaiting heat from this comment ) and better than playing Atari. Aside from the crappy disk controllers, its a pretty nice platform and has many fun games. Some games I'd reccomend are: Hover Force B17 Bomber Tropical Trouble AD&D Armor Battle Beauty and the Beast Bomb Squad Dracula Loco-Motion Mission - X Safecracker Motocross Sea Battle Snafu Sub Hunt An Intellivoice is really nice to have. You'll find that most of the better games ( see list above ) are harder to get ahold of and are more expensive ( duh. ) Again Congrats. Welcome to the family. - Sean
