killersquirel #3 Posted November 21, 2004 The origin of the term "black friday" came from the time when a business would sell alot of product on the day after thanksgiving and will help the business get out of the "red" (loss of profit) and into the "black" (making profit). -mike P.S. Don't have that here in Canada (probably because our Thanksgiving is over a month earlier, and isn't associated with any shopping binges, except on turkeys) so I couldn't figure out what it was. :-) (Plus, as I recall the Great Depression was brought on by a massive stock market crash in 1929 that was dubbed "Black Monday" so naturally, a similarily-named Friday didn't sound too appealing. :-)) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
