Recall on new PS2s?

Recommended Posts

I've no idea when mine was made. But I was late in the PS2 game..so I didn't pick mine up until Jan or April of 2003. It will be hitting it's two year mark soon. No problems other than with one spongebob game..and that is all...

I haven't looked, but I remember that TRU and Wal-Marts here seem to have at least a half dozen on the shelf at any one time. Or locked behind the glass etc...

Then again, around these parts, most of us wouldn't get the PSTwo unless we had a real need to get one. Just because it is a smaller version of the original isn't a means to go out and buy one. Only the die hard collectors with money to burn will pick these up. Or those whom didn't have a PS2 before. Those who have working PS2s already aren't likely to run out and buy this newer model. I know I don't plan to...unless something happens to my current model.

To be honest it doesn't sound like the PSTwo really has been recalled.

I think they have had distribution problems or supplier problems as it sounds like they haven't got enough for demand. Everywhere is sold out and stores are just trying to push Xbox/Cube in it's place.

It's possible there is a fault and this has slowed down deliveries to stores while they replace the faulty component. Big companies normally only do recalls if there is a safety issue.

A thread over at DP suggests that the laser lenses are popping on many units. Seems a batch is bad. But they don't know which batch it is.

wait, that's right, the gaming populace likes to buy games that are "popular" and "what the magazines tell them to buy".
Nice reference.

:D Heh, I hoped someone would catch it.
