Wouldn't that just be a regular USB cable that you can get pretty much anywhere or does it have some type of proprietary connector on the printer end?

The printer end is not a regular USB. I don't know what it is. It kind of looks like firewire, only turned around. Here I drew a picture....

Looks like a USB "B" connector. The "A" connector is the flat one. The "B" connector is the squareish one. Maybe you need something like Type A USB Male to Type B USB Male (CompUSA link)?

Yeah, you should be able to get one of those at pretty much any place that sells computers & electronics.

If the corners of that are actually of 45 degree angles and not round, then yeah, all you need is a standard A to B connector and you're set. But don't get them at the computer store, you'll get ripped off. Check ebay, there will be reasonable prices there. I don't see why anyone would want to pay more than $5 or $8 for a wire with connectors on the ends. Don't ever pay the $25 or $35 ripoff prices for them ...

Walmart has a 6' cable for around $8, the best deal I've found in a retail store.

I wouldn't buy this in a retail store, the prices for this stuff are way out of line! There are good deals for these cables on eBay, you should be able to find them for around $3 shipped. Many sellers have them listed for low prices and then gouge you on shipping. I just purchased something from this guy, and he has exactly what you need:
