member #1 Posted December 2, 2004 I very like this game "River Raid". I have download the rom and StellaX.exe. But this game is rather difficult. And only have 3 lives. Is there any cheat tools ? That I can get infinite lives?
Goochman #2 Posted December 2, 2004 There is the 'practice' hack Sorry couldnt resist I believe somewhere out there is an infinite lives hack of this Rom - however since Activision has asked everyone to pull their Roms off sites you might not be able to find it. sku_u #3 Posted December 2, 2004 Your best bet would be to do a search in Google to see if there is one out there somewhere. Activision is very protective of it's copyrights, so finding it may be difficult if it is indeed out there.
chubsta #4 Posted December 2, 2004 This was a game that i always wanted when I was a kid, but my brother (who owned the vcs) would never buy it, although a mate had it and we used to play at his house. I played it for the first time in years yesterday, and the game is so damn hard! its not like ive given up playing games and got rusty - I play stuff on xbox and gc all the time and have even completed metroid prime (the hardest game ever in my book) - but i dont last long on RR, i guess this is more proof that old games were more challenging....... Crimefighter #5 Posted December 2, 2004 The version of this game in the ten in one joystick is harder.
candiru #6 Posted December 2, 2004 If you can't track down a hacked rom you might be able to at least see more of the game using save states. I haven't really gotten into emulators too much though, so I might just be talking out of my rear.
maibock #7 Posted December 2, 2004 You really won't need anymore lives to enjoy this game. Just practice and having fun doing so. After a few rounds you'll learn when to slow the aircraft down and when to speed up. You'll also learn how to get gas while firing at the same time. Aaron #8 Posted December 3, 2004 Actually you don't need the hacked version, as River Raid already has a cheat code in it. In fact, the cheat was so commonly exploited that many later games copied it almost exactly. What you need to do is press the "fire" button - this will cause enemies in front of you to die. Clearly the cheat wasn't meant to be in the final build, because it works on bridges too for some reason.

D.Yancey #10 Posted December 3, 2004 It is tough to do the "diagonals" for River Raid on an emulator using the Keyboard. I recommend using a Gravis Game Pro or the Stelladaptor or play on real 2600 hardware. Then you can get some real benefits if you combine a good controller with the "practice hack". Synthead #11 Posted December 4, 2004 I love River Raid! It's my fav game of all time! Yes, it's challenging at first, especially since the controls are non-linear, but when you get the hang of it, it's like riding a bike. Oh, and in case you're interested in using a good controller ... http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61300
atari_aaron #12 Posted December 4, 2004 My brother purchased River Raid for PC a few years back and if you really want the genuine playing experience I'd get that. Why? Because it had the "Mom Feature". As you play it, the game every so often has your mom chime in with things like: "Are you still playing that game?" "Go outside and play, its a nice day." "Put that thing down, I told you that it's time for dinner!" That's the true River Raid experience if you asked me.

"Put that thing down, I told you that it's time for dinner!" That's the true River Raid experience if you asked me. Sometimes I start that old emulator on my PC in the background and just let it idle while I play my real Atari accross the room. The nag feature still plays the quotes every few minutes even when you're not actually playing. You can set it to nag often or seldom. I set it to seldom, so it sort of surprises me again each time. My nephew saw me doing this and thought it was extremely funny. His mother did not share in the humor.
Chris-in-NJ #14 Posted December 4, 2004 I find 2600 River Raid rather difficult too. The 5200 version, with a digital stick, is my River Raid of choice.

shadowdoggie #17 Posted December 6, 2004 I highly recommend trying the game Bermuda. Not to be confused with Bermuda Triangle. It is also a hack of River Raid, but twice as cool as the original (in my opinion). You play it in the the air (plane) as opposed to in the water. I was pretty sure I got the ROM for this hack on AtariAge, but I just did a check and didn't find it here. Not too long ago I purchased a few Brazilian carts and much to my surprise, one of the carts was a 4-in-1 game and one of the games was Bermuda. I was pretty psyched. River Raid wasn't one of my favorites as a kid, but I have grown to appreciate it in my adult years, probably because I have developed a little more patience and that's the key to this game. shadowdoggie #18 Posted December 6, 2004 Sorry... that wasn't a very good description. What I mean is that you are fighting in a plane up in the clouds. In River Raid you are in a plane but the plane must be flying at sea level because you crash into bridges and grass. Bermuda is much more relistic, because you can crash into clouds  Anyway, I tried to do a screen shot for you by pressing Alt+Print Screen and also using Print Screen by itself, but when I pasted, the screenshot was all black. How does one do a screenshot?
