Cobra Commander #1 Posted December 3, 2004 Picked up Super Smash TV for Genesis the other day for a buck at a pawn. Its pretty close to the arcade version, and I noticed you can set it up for 1 player/2 controllers. I guessing it would be best with 2 joystick controllers wich I dont have. Has any one tried this? How well does it work? This is tied for 1st on my all-time favorite arcade games list. Me and my buddy would play till the end, put in a couple bucks and go. We'd be sweating profusely and have blisters from the joysticks, it was "aaaawesome"
figgler #2 Posted December 3, 2004 Smash TV for NES has that feature too, but I've never tried it. The dual stick control on the modern systems for Smash and Carnage included on the Midway Arcade discs is pretty awesome though.
Xot #3 Posted December 3, 2004 It's intended for you to hold one controller in each hand, with the pads rotated 90 degrees clockwise so that "left" is actually "up." Never tried the Genny version, which I would imagine would be tougher that the NES controllers due to the curved shape. Works pretty well on the NES version. Cobra Commander #4 Posted December 4, 2004 Thanks I'll check out that midway arcade. To bad I modded my only spare genny controller for the 2600, not hard to find another though.
Radio F Software #5 Posted December 4, 2004 Lucky you. I've been looking for a NES or Genny (or even SNES) copy of Smash TV for a long time now. For now however, I have my ROMs, and a copy of CrimsonLand for PC. (kinda the same as Smash TV only with aliens)
sega saturn x #6 Posted December 5, 2004 I have tried it but its but i only have 1 aracde stick so i ahde to use 2 controlers. Using 2 controlers is a nightmare. But i tried having one of my friends use 1 and i would use the other. That worked fairly well.
Goodwill Hunter #7 Posted December 7, 2004 Picked up Super Smash TV for Genesis the other day for a buck at a pawn. How well does it work? I made a custom dual joystick for Genesis Smash TV back in the day from a pair of 7800 contollers, and it worked great! I attached them to a piece of sheet metal by removing the screws from the bottoms of the controllers and reattaching them through the sheet metal. Had to experiment with the buttons to select the game options, but they worked fine as well. It game me a real arcade feel, and I still had it around until I found the version of STV on the PS1 Arcade Party Pak that utilized the dual analog sticks...a great port! Rich Thanks for the 7800 joystick idea, I can get a set of those cheaper than genny sticks. I'll have to check out that PS1 title to. To bad you dont have a pic of that old joy stick. Jess Ragan #9 Posted December 10, 2004 It's all about the Super NES version, man. The Genesis game pales in comparison... in fact, I thought the NES game was a more impressive translation, considering each of the system's limitations. JR

RMila75 #11 Posted December 21, 2004 Smash TV is one of my all-time favorites. I used to be pretty good at the dual controller NES version. It seemed weird to play a game with two NES controllers, using only my thumbs, but it feels really natural once you get going. I like the Genny version too, but those gamepads are too awkward to hold at that angle in one hand. Has anyone tried the NES version with two NES Advantage sticks? The Genesis game pales in comparison... in fact, I thought the NES game was a more impressive translation, considering each of the system's limitations. I couldn't agree more. In fact, Smash TV along with only a handful of other games is the only reason I keep my SNES. I have a Famicom Crazy Climber that uses 2 gamepads as mentioned above. I haven't even come around to testing it yet; the whole thing seems a bit of a hassle. Or maybe I'm just lazy.
Famicoman #13 Posted December 22, 2004 Ah, Smash Tv. I have one for my NES, and am quite impressed, I get a certain thrill from it that I haven't had since I played...Grand theft auto?
