dvdguy #1 Posted December 4, 2004 Arrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Got me on a last second snipe. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8150274577 Silver label Gravitar hidden in there... damn damn damn!
YOK-dfa #2 Posted December 4, 2004 It's your own fault. You just should have put in a higher bid... I don't understand why people always have to complain about sniping. Apparently someone was willing to pay more then you. What's the big deal? If you were willing to pay more, why didn't you bid more? It's people like you that make sniping worth the effort
dvdguy #3 Posted December 4, 2004 Complaining about snipers and damning them is two different things. I know all about the practice... it's fine with me. Still doesn't make getting sniped at the last nanosecond any less frustrating. I thought I was getting a deal, that's all.
Mindfield #4 Posted December 4, 2004 Don't feel bad. Throwdini and I have have battled it out many times. He has deeper pockets. Pity, too. Nice lot, that one -- Silver Gravitar and Pengo make the lot, but they all seem to have nice labels, too.
jetset #5 Posted December 5, 2004 That's one thing I never understood. Yeah I admit, I've probably become more of a collector than a gamer, but I just can't get into the big whoop of the "rarer" labels. I have Gravitar. Red label. If I ever found a silver label in the wild I'd sell it or trade it. Quest for Quintana Roo? Yep, Telegames. I could care less about the Sunrise label. Same game. Meh. Mindfield #6 Posted December 5, 2004 It's a showpiece. And the different labels often have stories behind them, or are significant because they are the "original" labels rather than re-releaes. Sometimes the other labels are just cooler. Sometimes they're just different in an interesting way. I collect label variations, but generally only major ones; I don't concern myself with the presence, absence or positioning of copyright symbols or minutae like that. Different typefaces or colours or whatever, yes.

MattG/Snyper2099 #8 Posted December 5, 2004 Yup, it's the same thing as having the first pressing of a Beatles album. It's usually the more valuable, more desirerable one, especially if it's on a different "label" (or company in a video games' case).
NE146 #9 Posted December 5, 2004 I just play videogames.. and lots of old ones in there as well

Different typefaces or colours or whatever, yes. I agree with that. That funky copy of Breakout for example, the one that's all orange... I own that even though I own the regular one as well. It's just too interesting to pass up. Re: the Gravitar in the auction I lost... I was just hoping to get a R8 (my first) at a bargain. The auction didn't hype the cart as if it was rare, and so it was a thrilling little find that I was hoping no one else noticed.
charitycasegreg #11 Posted December 6, 2004 LEARN TO SNIPE!!!! Don't complain unless you have a reason. I guess the person who sniped is just smarter then you and knew a better way to win the auction.
Atari-Jess #12 Posted December 6, 2004 The thing is, yes you would have paid more, but people WANT to get things for the lowest price they can. This is why I hate ebay. The time limit. I prefer live auctions to ebay. Yes, I want to pay as little as I can but if I really want it, then I can bid more and continue until I no longer can. Don't mind me, I just dont use ebay unless I have to. It's a love hate thing me and ebay
Lifeguard #13 Posted December 6, 2004 Look at it from the Sellers Point Of View. Someone wanted to pay more for what they had for sale and the world keeps turning round and round. The seller is happy and maybe tommorow you will find that Silver Gravitar at the local thrift for $1 on your way home. Can't be wishful thinking. dvdguy #14 Posted December 6, 2004 LEARN TO SNIPE!!!! Don't complain unless you have a reason. I guess the person who sniped is just smarter then you and knew a better way to win the auction. Well this is just unnecessary. I put in my highest price... I knew full well I could be outbid. I wasn't venting about the CONCEPT or PRACTICE of sniping... just that I'd lost the auction at the last second. Everyone needs to just cool out here. I'm not ranting against snipers so no one who snipes should be so up in arms about this post.
