sway3 #1 Posted November 29, 2001 $253 for 2600 and 31 common games! This one too...
sway3 #2 Posted November 29, 2001 Well, it is a pretty darn good Christmas present, but "perfect Christmas present" just seemed so much better than "pretty darn good Christmas present."
ATARIPITBULL #3 Posted November 29, 2001 I think this person paid way to much for this collection, I mean since I started collecting atari 2600 items, the most I ever paid for a mint Atari was $85, and that was with the box, and all those games are not that hard to get. No sir, I think he paid too much.
tomyou #4 Posted November 29, 2001 People do tend to pay a great deal more during the x-mas season but it just shows you atari is still a very hot and collectible item. People buying them as gifts don't look at the prices during the off months so they are unsure what a "good price is" Still if they get a good system and are satisfied then the money is well worth it. If they are pleased, and I can see no reason why they wouldn't be, then it was a good deal at $253 or $2530. Remember, someone else had to bid $250.00 for this person to win it at $253.00. Amazing though, huh?
moycon #6 Posted November 29, 2001 It was the inclusion of E.T. that made the price go so high. Hell I'd pay $50 just for that. And I already have 10 copies of it.
jsoper #7 Posted November 29, 2001 Someone posted once that the original price for a 2600 was over $400 of today's money after adjusting for inflation.
Ze_ro #8 Posted November 29, 2001 This is ridiculous... you would think the person would have at least done a search for Atari stuff and seen most if going for a damn lot cheaper. Also, the person's feedback is zero, so they likely did something stupid like bid $500, thinking that they'll automatically win the auction unless someone else bids more (which they assume is unlikely). I'd be surprised if the seller ever gets that $253. --Zero
sway3 #9 Posted November 30, 2001 Surprise! (They paid paypal.) Remember that during Christmas there are a few extra factors... people want the very best (the auction presentation is pretty good), they feel better about paying more (when it's a gift for a loved one - some people actually look for the highest price vs. lowest), they want assurance (this goes to the reputation of the seller: both feedback and the fact that the seller sells ALOT of Atari Systems - as opposed to someone selling the dusty lot from their attic). Anyway, that is just my take from what I have experienced. (...plus the fact everyone goes crazy-mad this time of year.)
+RangerG #10 Posted November 30, 2001 When you are shopping for Christmas you want reliablity. Also, this is a plug and play system so the buyer can feel confident giving a gift that she/he will not have to deal with before Christmas. It's a lot of $, but I understand why it went for so much. sway3 #11 Posted November 30, 2001 Agreed! Just sold another for $560.00. This one is alot closer to reality though... 167 games with several difficult to find. However, this person also has 0 feedback and I haven't heard from them yet...
Lemmi #12 Posted November 30, 2001 Do you guys that use Ebay alot to sell stuff get alot of new types posting bids during this time of the year? and not paying?
sway3 #13 Posted November 30, 2001 Well, we get more bidders - and usually only the newest bidders pay the high prices so they have a better chance of winning - since experienced eBayers avoid peak times and bidding wars (mostly). Non-paying bidders are almost always new bidders. I am happy to say though that the $560.00 auction winner has contacted me and agreed to send payment this week. Lemmi #14 Posted November 30, 2001 Holy crap $560 + $20.60 im sending ya thats some cash man thats great
sway3 #15 Posted November 30, 2001 Yeah, I thought about that. That's why I wanted to offer those two deals at cost. I have wanted to do a couple systems for eBay's charity auctions, but I have a problem with my billpoint account... I REALLY regret missing AtariAge's charity auctions... I meant to contribute, but just missed the submission date. edit: rewrite [ 11-30-2001: Message edited by: sway3 ]
tomyou #16 Posted November 30, 2001 Yes, there are a lot of new bidder with little or no feedback this time of year. But almost all of them come through and usually VERY fast. Summer is when you get the most deadbeats. Guess the kids get to playing on the ole computer and bid like a mad man with no money to their names . I have sold my last 5 system for between $100 and $200 and so far they have all been paid for. Great prices on yours sway . congrats !
