Atari-Jess #1 Posted December 11, 2004 So, I took a look at Voy's uber-XE and that was just too much for me. Oh man did that ever look sweet. Anyway, I have to ask. With all those updates, and advances and enhancements and upgrades that are not just on that lil box, but are available.... What is the point? Were all these mods done "just because" (which isn't to say thats not a good enough reason on its own...) or is there purpose? What apps, programs exist that take advantage of these mods? Are they all just technology demos? or is there something that can be used?
Atari-Jess #2 Posted December 11, 2004 Note, I say this as a curious 8bit owner, not as someone who's trying to make the 8bit community think about what they're doing with their spare time
Goochman #3 Posted December 11, 2004 Though I dont disagree with some of your points - I do have to disagree when it comes to stuff like the USB cart - or MyIDE - Those are things that can help make your atari a bit more productive without needing a PC Id never go back to writing papers on it, but new games are always welcome - You cant get the same feeling with a PC - Just my $0.

Artlover #5 Posted December 11, 2004 What is the point? Were all these mods done "just because" (which isn't to say thats not a good enough reason on its own...) or is there purpose? I guess it largely depends on the individual and what they do with their machine. Personaly, I have two classifications; - Neccessary: Provides actual improvement that can be widely used. - Optional: Provides non improving creature comfort. Neccessary mods in my opinion would include things like memory & OS upgrades. Can always use more memory. Likewise, alternate OS's with improvements like "better math handling" is always good. Optional mods in my opinion are stereo sound or the IDE interface. Sure, nice to have, but in of themselves provide little in the way of tactical hardware improvement.
