Sega CD Audio Issue

Inspired by the recent Sega CD thread, I pulled my Sega CD unit out of the closet today, and after hooking everything up I noticed that the system was adding extra "chirping" or beeping to the games. Even during the boot up screen, it seemed to be playing this extra chirping medley that I don't think belongs there.

 

Any idea what is causing these stray sounds? It really happens a lot during FMV sequences, but also elsewhere.
