Modded VIDEO GAME BRAIN Atari 2600 Game Changer

Recommended Posts

What can I say, I was bored, so I whipped this little beauty up. It's a Video Game Brain for use with Atari 2600 and compatible video game systems. It allows you to switch between 6 different games without having to remove and insert games into the game console's cartridge slot, thus allowing for longer system life due to less wear and tear. I replaced the originally dimly lit red power LED with a "Hyper Blue" one and installed (6) "Atari Orange" LED's to corespond with each one of the unit's cartridge slots. Thus allowing you to know which game is selected. There is more detailed information listed in the auction itself.

I've always wondered (i have one myself) why there is only room for 6 cartridges while there are 8 'slots' in the device... Anyone have ideas about that??

Well underneath the 2 "storage slots" is the main wiring harness into the unit where it connects to the PCB. If they made it an 8 game switcher it would have to be wider to accomodate for the wiring and extra slots thus leaving you 2 more empty slots. I suppose they thought that it was better used for game storage than just a flat panel that didn't provide any purpose.
