JesterDev #1 Posted December 12, 2004 I am thinking about buying a Starpath Supercharger, and I thought I had these questions answered but I don't. First what do I need to convert roms (bin files) to wav in order to use them on a Supercharger? I've seen a few programs but I'm not sure which ones will work. Also how can I convert (?) the Supercharger to read off of a CD? This is not really such a big deal, but would save me from having to store a bunch of wav files. If I have to modify the Supercharger, I'd rather not not do it though. Any links to info would also be greatly appreciated. JesterDev
Mindfield #2 Posted December 12, 2004 The SC will work for most 2k and 4k games. Some require modding the unit, though. All you need is a BIN2WAV program and burning software to record the WAVs to an audio CD. You then hook a portable CD player up to your SC, pick the track, turn the unit on and hit PLAY. Simple! JesterDev #3 Posted December 12, 2004 Great! Thanks a ton. I was starting to think it was more complicated then that. Btw, is $28 shipped a good deal on a Supercharger? No box, or anything. I thought these where a bit more rare.
SteveW #4 Posted December 12, 2004 Yep, there's no adaption of the Supercharger to read off of a CD player. I could go into a discussion of how computer programs were saved on audio tapes in the early '80s, for all you young'uns who don't know, but I won't bore you with it. Basically, the Supercharger files are sound files. Whether they come from a cassette, CD, or a headphone jack on a modern computer, it doesn't matter to the Supercharger. Have fun! Mindfield #5 Posted December 12, 2004 Great! Thanks a ton. I was starting to think it was more complicated then that. Btw, is $28 shipped a good deal on a Supercharger? No box, or anything. I thought these where a bit more rare. Seems a bit steep to me for a loose SC with no games or anything. They're not common, certainly, but I think my absolute outside limit would be $20 plus shipping. (The SC is cheap to ship)
JesterDev #6 Posted December 12, 2004 Thanks. I did find another one for $38 and it comes with 3 games, 2 boxed, 1 with just the tape and manual. Ok Last question. I was just converting some bin files, and seems like quite a few are to large. Is there instructions on moding it so these other games will fit? Not sure if I want to do it, but taking a look at how it's done wont hurt. I can solder, but well.. We'll see. I searched google, but so far have come up empty. bjk7382 #7 Posted December 12, 2004 Ok Last question. I was just converting some bin files, and seems like quite a few are to large. Is there instructions on moding it so these other games will fit? No roms over 6k will work on the supercharger (as it only has 6k of memory) And all the comercial games released are either 2k, 4k, 8k and larger So basically you can play 2k and 4k games only (and some only when the supercharger is modified) Oh, and you can still play supercharger games after it is modified also. JesterDev #8 Posted December 12, 2004 I see. So only certain 2k-4k games need it to be modified in order work. But no games larger then 4k will work regardless. I thought I could modify the super charger so I could play larger games. Sorry I misunderstood. Eitherway, I have loads of carts as it is so I should be OK. Just wanted to try those that I don't have yet.. Yet.
