Selling emulator and roms together on the same disc

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't selling an emulator and roms together illegal.

Yep. But too often some moron gets it in his head to try and scam a few bucks and sells these things. At least, 'til he's reported and booted.

It's still a cloudy area. I don't have the link handy, but there's a link to a goverment website floating around.. it said something about systems they no longer manufactuer the roms are legal. I don't remember it exactly how they worded it, but it made me think those pirate Bazillion-in-1 cartridges are legal now.

that webstie says in legal-eese that you can basically decript the roms for archival purposes and you still have to own the original...it's just a technicality thing dealing with the language of the DMCA.

None of that changes the fact that pretty well every emulator's EULA stipulates that it may not be distributed with associated ROMs under any circumstances.

And we know how much someone who's infringing copyright on a few thousand ROMs is gonna care about breaking the license of a freeware emulator.

 

(I know I didn't, back in the days when I was making bootable emulator CD's for my friends and family.)
