Metroid Prime and Sonic Collection for Game Cube

Recommended Posts

I picked these up tonight for my GC...I don't really have many games for it because I don't like it that much...but Wally World has them for $9 each so I figured I would give them a shot...anyone have these? Are they worth getting? Do they make a Sonic Collection for the Xbox?

What about the Midway Arcade Treasures (first edition) for GC? Any different emulation from the xbox version?

METROID PRIME RULES ALL.

Seriously. One of the best games ever on any system. In my top 10 of all time.

Halo and Metroid Prime both have a first person perspective in common, but really, that's about it. I love each game, but for totally different reasons. Halo tends to be a more goal oriented game, shoot or blast your way to this destination, then this one, then this one, whereas Prime does have goals but also has a lot to explore and doesn't necessarily FORCE you to advance. I remember the first night my friend David and I played it we spent at least an hour exploring around and going the wrong way without realizing you needed to roll up into a ball to activate a switch. Sound frustrating? Not to me - it's precisely the charm of Prime. You don't have to do what's next to play it, you can just play it and soak it in. On the other hand Halo's goal oriented system has something to say for it too, since you really do want to complete the goals to see the next cut scene, to find out what will happen to Master Chief, and so on. So they're both great games, for totally different reasons.

Exactly... same goes for Metroid Prime 2. I had been playing along for a while, more or less following the (apparently) prescribed storyline, but after I'd gotten a few new weapons that I knew would allow me to access areas I couldn't get to before, I decided to break away from the mission and just explore. Well, that led me to an area where, after racking my brain on a puzzle, I acquired a super-powerful weapon I wasn't "supposed" to have until later in the game.

I don't have an XBOX so I haven't played Halo, but there's never been a game that has sucked me in as much as Metroid Prime (and Metroid Prime 2). That you got it for $9 is unbelievable. (Of course, you did have to sell your soul to do it. ;) )

I have the Sonic Collection as well, and have enjoyed it. The Sonic games originally came out at the absolute nadir of my interest in console gaming, so I'd never played the originals. They seem to have done a great job with the emulation though, and they're fun games to have. (Plus, now I feel like I don't ever have to bother with collecting for Genesis.)

The game of the moment for me though is Alien Hominid. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to play it since I picked it up earlier in the week.

I got my Prime for free.

...

Never mind that this was because I was late enough to the show that it was coming with GameCubes as a bundle deal...

From what I understand, the Sonic collection is just plain better for the X-box (more games). But, MAT for the cube is better than the other 2 versions. And the cube version of MAT2, is actually better than the X-box one too (but I dont know about the ps2)

It's probably better than the PS2 version as well. I heard that system had the toughest time with the more advanced games in the collection (ie Hard Drivin'). Then again, Hard Drivin' wasn't so hot on the GameCube either...

Anyway, Midway Arcade Treasures is worth about nine bucks. I paid twenty for mine and although I was a bit disappointed with it (frankly, I think the emulation is better on the Saturn game released in 1996), it's still a solid collection with a lot of worthwhile games. MAT2 is a tougher sell... there are only a small handful of good games on the disc (Rampage World Tour, Total Carnage, MKs II and III), but if you were a big fan of any of them, you'll definitely want this. The collection packs more audiovisual punch than the last one because many of the games are much more recent. Rampage World Tour in particular was first released for game systems just seven years ago, and back then, it wasn't included with nearly two dozen other titles!

they had them in a huge bin for $9 beside a huge bin of old DVD's for $3.88...they only had one Metroid and two copies of Sonic...so i grabbed them...they had one copy of the originial MAT...which I have for xbox already so i passed....they have some older sports titles...there are xbox, ps2, and GC games in there...nothing much else I was interested in...I dont have a PS2 anymore or i would have grabbed a few of those.

I think there were some 007 games for GC in there and maybe some sort of harry potter titles? the rest looked like crap or it was stuff I already had (Sims..etc)

I got MP for 20 bucks when it first went to Player's Choice, but it was too FPS for me to enjoy so I gave it to my brother after I'd played it for 20 hours or so. Sonic Collection I picked up for $18 at BB after it went to P'sC, and.... well, it's Sonic. Didn't really like it as much as I remembered it (waaaaaay too much "scroll through the levels so fast you just have to memorize the moves or you will die"), but I'm glad I bought it.

Either one is a bargain at $9. I can't imagine why they're closing them out.

well to be honest this wal mart has the worst selection of games and it's so small and the game selection is so weak...they only have a small section for xbox, gba, and GC and a double size section for ps2....they only carry about 20 titles for everything but the ps2 and about 40 for ps2.

I heard that wal mart screwed up the after thanksgiving sale and were supposed to make some specials like this to try to make up for it...i dunno...just a guess. The selection was not good...mostly junk.

i was pissed about that too, i chose the X-Box version of Sonic Mega Collection over the GC one cause it said it had six extra gamegear games. I was thinking, awww sweet!! finally get to play triple trouble on a big screen! got it home, and it`s the craptacular Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine(Which they already had the Genesis version on the disc), Sonic Drift(Bleh), Sonic 1 and 2(Which are ok), Sonic Blast (GOD AWFUL), and Sonic Chaos (just about the best for gamegear). They completely missed the Tails games, Sonic CD, Knuckles Chaotix, and probably some more. I that some of the other games are included in Sonic Adventure DX though, so that may be worth a purchase.

All in all, it was worth 20 bucks, even though they could have made it more complete and made it really something, but with the slick menus and extras, it still is pretty good

Thats why i didnt bother buying it i paid 40$ for sonic mega collection for game cube when it was new. No way im going to spend 20 exstra dollars for six lousy game gear games. All of which are on sonic adventer DX.
