Sick 2600 Sound, HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I found a 4 switch in the wild and I brought her to a much nicer home. After a cosmetic and thourough cleaning, I hooked it up to discover there is no audio signal. The tv only has static. I said, no sweat, I will just tune in the RF modulator slug in the RF box on the board. No luck. Picture is perfect. I also monkeyed with the white pot over by the left side of the board. Wild colors, no sound ;(.

I really do not know where to go from here. I have experience at repairing full size games, but do not know what I am doing in here. Any suggestions, (like what the sound processor/amp looks like would be great. I could download the schematics, but that would make sense. Any known quick fixes/troubles would be helpful.

Thanks,

Cassidy

The problem might be withthe Stella chip. The pin 12 and 13 is the sound putput and is also fed through a 1K pull up resistor to 5v DC. Check the resistance between pin 12/13 and pin 20 (5v DC) and if you get about 1K the resistor is OK.

Beyond that I'd blame the RF modulator.

Stupid question, but...

Which of the three socked IC's is the Stella chip? There is one long closest to the cart slot, one short, and then one more long that is socketed backwards (or at least looks to be... its number one is opposite that of the others).

Thanks for the tip. I will check the legs as soon as I know which one. I think this is more likely the cause than the RF, too.
