tiggerthehun #1 Posted December 21, 2004 Whilst I was perusing the isles for the Fat Albert DVD collection, I stumbled (literally - as my motion was determined moreso by the ebbs and flows of the crowd, as opposed to any sort of direction I actually wanted to go) into an odd bin in the middle of the isle. I did a double - triple and then quadroople take as I saw they were selling factory sealed Oddessy 2 games for $2.99 each. How fricking bizarre! Best Buy wasn't open for business back then - so it's not old stock. Anyone have any info on this? BTW, I didn't buy any of them, as I don't have an O2... CPUWIZ #2 Posted December 21, 2004 Are you serious? Maybe I should ask the local Best Buy store manager if I can sport a tent in their store (save your jokes). Maybe sealed Quadruns are next?
Inky #3 Posted December 21, 2004 Where was this at, Tigg?
tiggerthehun #4 Posted December 21, 2004 I remember: Speedway, Spinout, something or other Thunderball UFO Alien Invaders There were 1 or 2 others that I don't recall right now. For those of you who are close, it was in the Merriville Best Buy - in a bin right next to the GameBoy section. Yeah, I nearly pooped my pants - till I kept digging, and saw no Atari games. Still, frickin' bizarre...
video game addict #5 Posted December 21, 2004 There was mention that Best Buy's were getting USED media sections, on DP about 4-5 months ago. They are/were test marketing around, so you could start finding sections dedicated to old used games & movies in the near future. Definitely can't hurt, but I don't think you will be seeing that much of old games, no way they can pay enough for people to really bring in to sell/trade in. Albert #6 Posted December 21, 2004 Wow, I would have liked to have seen that. If you go back to the store and they are still there, if you buy one or two or more of them, I will buy them from you. I want to see them with the BB sticker on them and the BB receipt. ..Al
MegaManFan #7 Posted December 21, 2004 Indeed, count me in. I don't even own an O^2 but this might be a good excuse to start.
Tempest #8 Posted December 21, 2004 That would have blown my little mind. How odd... Now if they get some used Neo Geo games for $2.99, then we're in business... Tempest
Flojomojo #9 Posted December 21, 2004 What were you smoking? Are you still high on life over your new girlfriend or something? This is beyond bizarre.
Cootster #10 Posted December 21, 2004 Is it April 1 already? Or is this just some kind of cruel Decemberween prank? Maybe the new girl slipped some liquid LSD in your aftershave? I mean, I can see BB having a used section . . . for PS1/PS2/DC/Box/Cube/N64, that is. . . I'd be shocked if they even decided to carry 16-bit stuff, much less the O2? NIB O2 games at Best Buy are impossible. . . Even if the store had existed in '83, which it didn't, and even if there was a huge trove of US O2 carts sitting in a warehouse somewhere unbeknownst to collectors, which is very, very unlikely, the two would never meet. For one thing, why would they carry software for a system 99.9% of their customers don't remember, much less own. Pictures are needed here.
dvdguy #11 Posted December 21, 2004 Maybe that's where the one dude got those 7 Air Raids... I'll believe it when I see it.
sega saturn x #12 Posted December 21, 2004 Ive had equaly strange things like that happen to me. Not in video games but with an action figure i used to love transformers i collected them all the time mainly beast wars. Some of them were out of production and very rare. And the one day at toys R us i was shopping for my cousin and i saw a original megatron t-rex. Which had been out of production for years. Needless to say i purchased it and was a happy camper. Its not just like your story but still the same idea.
Flojomojo #13 Posted December 21, 2004 Maybe it was this? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id...21&type=product
MegaManFan #14 Posted December 21, 2004 Tigger is enough of a gamer that I don't think he'd confuse an O^2 game with a DVD box set.
joeybastard #15 Posted December 21, 2004 Tigger is enough of a gamer that I don't think he'd confuse an O^2 game with a DVD box set. Not only that, he mentioned definite O2 titles
zombiecraig #16 Posted December 22, 2004 Yeah, I don't see why he would lie about it. And incarnations of Best Buy have been around for a while (I saw it on a video they make you watch when you work there), since the 70's I believe. Not in the current megastore format, but the company has been around. I don't recall the history, but it does seem possible that someone found them in storage. tiggerthehun #17 Posted December 22, 2004 I will stop back there tomorrow - would have done so today, but it's 30 minutes away from my house, and it was a busy day. Thanks for the votes of confidence guys - and yes, this is no prank - if I had something to b.s. ya'll about, I'd come up with a better one than this. My word is golden - Stan, Chicky, Dr. Galaga, Pov1, and many others can testify as such... Will get pics - and carts for Megaman and Al (First choice, anyway, since you guys posted first about it) - if there are some left. Can't imagine that they're all gone - as most anyone who knows what they are were probably just as shocked as me.
SteveW #18 Posted December 22, 2004 I went to my local Best Buy, on the off chance that they had some. Nope. But I did buy Shaun Of The Dead and Napoleon Dynamite on DVD, so that was just as good.
Albert #19 Posted December 22, 2004 I will stop back there tomorrow - would have done so today, but it's 30 minutes away from my house, and it was a busy day. I look forward to hearing about your report after you visit the store again tomorrow.. ..Al
Dr Galaga #20 Posted December 22, 2004 I will stop back there tomorrow...Will get pics... Do you plan on taking the pictures while in the store? I'll have to get Hobart's police frequency plugged in my scanner!
Cassidy Nolen #21 Posted December 22, 2004 Count me in for some of them, if you buy extras. Happily will pay shipping and a finders fee as well. I would take whatever titles. Neat to have some sealed ones. Cassidy
pinball22 #22 Posted December 22, 2004 That's incredibly bizarre... I could more easily see them having 2600 carts (from O'Shea's or something) than O2. I'll have to go check the local BB. (Strange O2 things do show up around here from time to time since there's a Magnavox plant.)
King Atari #23 Posted December 22, 2004 That's weird as hell. Where could BB have got those? Damn, I was at my BB last night, but nothing out of the ordinary.
tiggerthehun #24 Posted December 22, 2004 O.K. - we're back with the full report - pics will have to wait till tonight or tomorrow, as my friend who borrowed my digital camera hasn't shown up yet. The games (one of each)... Speedway/Spinout/Crypto-Logic Armored Encounter/Sub Chase Blockout/Breakdown UFO Thunderball Someone else apparrently bought the other two or three. The games ARE NOT sealed in plastic, as I previously thought - they were in a plastic protective "book-case", and so I wasn't able to look at them up close. However, I DO believe this is old, used stock. The covers of the boxes are nice and shiny - the manuals look as if they've never been read - indeed, I think they've never been taken out of the cover - and the carts themselves have no contact wear whatsoever. The only bummer is that it seems they were stored on top of eachother, and so there is some box seperation on Speedway, and a bit moreso on Blockout, but nothing that a bit of new scotch tape over the old stuff wouldn't fix. I'm happy to sell them off - indeed, I've already received my karmic payback, as I stopped by the used cd shop while I was up there, and picked up 7 sets of paddles, a keyboard controller, and the very cool looking (and tiny) "the power stick" - all in great shape... for a 1.99 each! Oh yeah, I also picked up Napolean Dynomite - and the Simpsons season five (didn't know it was out - nice suprise - and BB has it cheapest - 29.99!) Anyway, back to the O2 games - as they aren't sealed, I realize that may change things, but if folks are still interested in buying, Al and Megaman have first dibs - as they posted first - then Cassidy. I love all you guys, so however you want to divide things up is fine with me
tiggerthehun #25 Posted December 22, 2004 BTW, Thunderball, hands down, has the coolest box I've ever seen.
