StanJr #1 Posted November 25, 2001 I'm very happy to announce that liquid_sky's Activision Patch Quest is really heating up. The first challenge was Seaquest. Some results are in, but challengers are always welcome! Spider-fighter is next on the list! In addition to being a really fun way to play some great games and challenge yourself against some other really cool players, each quest challenge page includes some great information on the games themselves. Come on aboard, if you think you've got what it takes to master the Activision Library!!! Bring it on! Stan
rasty #2 Posted November 25, 2001 Interesting, very interesting, Stan.. I've never been into Seaquest, but I can play Spider Fighter so I think I'll give it a try. I'd rather play the games on an actual 2600 anyway, so I'll try to get some decent pictures with a digital camera. This reminds me way too much of times gone by with people trying to get decent shots of their TV screens.. we'll see if technology will actually help and bless me with good image quality this time, after so many years! Did you play with emulators or use a VCS? Also, how good are you at Spider Fighter? Last time I had to give up for dinner, but it looked like it didn't get any harder after the first levels. I think my score was well past 50.000 (patch earned) with a full supply of ships. Guess the game stops at 900.000 since twingalaxies reports 2 high scores at 900k. It's very important to be clear about the difficulty level we'll use. Also, you can trick the score in Spider Fighter by starting a hard game with the difficulty switch on A and then switching back to B (easy) during gameplay. This will get you an easy game with the increased scoring of the hard one (as reported on Digital Press).. oh well, too much talking, I'd better get playing! greets, Rasty.-
rasty #3 Posted November 25, 2001 Been playing some Seaquest to see if what I can do, and came up with 146.190, hell those fishes get fast at that level! Your 189k is really a very respectable score, Stan, I'll see if I can get a little further tomorrow... Thanks for getting me involved into such a fun semi-competition! greets, Rasty.-
liquid_sky #4 Posted November 26, 2001 Scores have been updated, Spider Fighter has been added, Stampede may be up tonight, but if its not ittl be up tommarrow. Sorry for the lag and slowness on updates, I had been sick and had alot of mindfog and just slowed me down on updates, but im well enough to get the quest started back with a bang. You Spider Fighters out there need to get poppin some pods, Seaquest had to get some larger score columns as the players out there are ruthless! You guys know the drill, now hit the page and get gaming
mvigor #5 Posted November 26, 2001 One of the two video cards in my work computer is a little slower than what Stella needs to run at 100% emulation speed. I got over 300,000 on SeaQuest, but the game was running at only about 70% normal speed. Does that count?
StanJr #6 Posted November 26, 2001 NO! That doesn't count! You gotta be playing these things on a real VCS or 100% emulation. (Sadly I have no digital camera so I HAVE to use the emu) Also, you must play the game as specified by the manual's patch requirements. If you cheat, you only cheat yourself. RULES COMMITTEE Stan As for Seaquest, if I get in a groove, baby, I'm gone on that game. It's difficulty plateaus around 125000/ As for Spider-fighter, it plateaus when you get to the banana orchard. I must beat jaybird's Seaquest score, he can keep the Spider-fighter score. As for Stampede, you need 4000 on level 1. I got 3905 ONCE and nearly cried when the last cow got by me! I must keep ropin'. This is a lot of fun, thanks to everybody for playing along!!! Gamer Stan
jaybird #7 Posted November 26, 2001 Gotta agree with Stan on this one. I'm tempted to go the emulator route just because my pics are so crappy, but nothing beats doing it as it was meant to be done, on an Atari. As far as slow video cards and "cheat" codes, we'll just have to rely on the honor system. You wouldn't want your name on the charts unless you did it fair & square, would you? Please leave the SeaQuest score alone! I've retired that game now, and don't want to bring it back out. It's very happy sleeping between Robot Tank and Skiing. I'm afraid to try Stampede. I was never any good at that game. Those darn black ponies kill me!
liquid_sky #8 Posted November 26, 2001 Dont be afraid to try stampede, im bad at it too, no hope=no fear ya know? Plus we need some scores so stampede isnt a STANpede
Lemmi #9 Posted November 26, 2001 My spider fighter High Score is 148,900 (unofficial of course) so this will give you guys something to strive for it really isnt that hard to get when my mom flipped the switch to the power in my room i had 9 guys left

Plus we need some scores so stampede isnt a STANpede IF ONLY! I'm going to spend the next two days doing nothing but working and playing Stampede. I will spell myself by making a run at jaybird's Seaquest score, but I doubt I can top it. That Stampede score MUST be obtained!!!
Lemmi #11 Posted November 26, 2001 As for Stampede i dont think i ever got over 3500 on that game, and i didnt play it that much either
liveinabin #12 Posted November 26, 2001 The ONLY game I don't suck at is Dragster, can I play?
rasty #13 Posted November 26, 2001 So, you mean scores for SeaQuest can still be submitted even if a new game is already in? Rasty.-
liquid_sky #14 Posted November 26, 2001 you can send scores in till your sick of a game.. 30 games later if you still wanna seaquest, then send me the score and ittl be there. I am a horrible dragster player, but sure, you can own the dragster times. After i whoop stampede Ill make dragster the next on my list.
Lemmi #15 Posted November 26, 2001 hehe i just got my copy of Dragster from good deal games today now i can see what its all about
StanJr #16 Posted November 26, 2001 Oh, no Dragster. And I thought it was hard to get the Stampede patch. This will most certainly take a while..... What a drag-ster, Stan
liquid_sky #17 Posted November 27, 2001 i suck at it too so ill have another game up to skip around with.. PRESSURE COOKER
StanJr #18 Posted November 27, 2001 OH NO! Don't do that! I actually LIKE the idea of playing a game that I am terrible at (or even dislike). I'll be in the thick of it with everyone else on the Drag strip. Only then will I enter the short order kitchen of doom. (I'm not good at PC either). I LOVE the challenge! Atari-Jess #19 Posted November 27, 2001 I should or someone should try to set up some HTML code where if you get the patch reqs then you get some HTML to put on a website that has a little frame with all the "patches" you have "earned" and you can display them on the site. of course it would be easy to cheat your way out of it, but we were already working on the honour system weren't we? so far ive got 6.17 on dragster (I HATE IT!!!) and im also working on Pressure Cooker (just cause i like that game) When (if is more correct) i get 6.0 on dragster ill send up a shot be sure of that. (why? even if its not the best? cause i really tried damnit!)
Atari-Jess #20 Posted November 27, 2001 FINE STARMASTER FREEWAY AND ROBOT TANK TOO!!! This activision quest is REALLY STARTING TO GET TO ME AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! (that is of course if we ever get to those games) [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Atari-Jess ]
StanJr #21 Posted November 27, 2001 I freakin' did it, baby! I racked up a FAT score on Stampede tonight (you'll have to check the site when its updated to see what it was though, ha! free hits for my pal liquid_sky). I played for about 2 hours straight and hit my groove! SWEEET! Bring on them there Drag racers! (uh oh) Stampeding Stan!!!!!!
jaybird #22 Posted November 28, 2001 After two nights of cursing horses, I finally nudged above the needed 3,000 for Stampede. That game is a ruthless heartbreaker. Placing two black ponies on opposite ends of the screen when I have 2,800 seems to be a favorite trick of the programmer. Dragster can't be that hard. Can it?
StanJr #23 Posted November 28, 2001 oh but it can be that hard. I'm getting close to the under 6 sec mark that earns the patch, but I'm hitting a plateau at about 6.30. There's a trick to it. As for Stampede: Remember, the cows always come in this order: Black Off White Orange Red from here it splits. After you rope a red calf you will get either: a black calf (the so-called "bum steer!") OR a cow skull followed by Off-White calves then orange, then red...etc.... By learning the pattern you can dictate when and where the black cows appear. This will reduce many a headache. Happy Ropin' Pardner Stan
Paul Slocum #24 Posted November 28, 2001 For Stampede, I leave a group of the slow brown ones at the top and bottom the whole game and keep nudging them up, only roping the ones in the middle. I made 3233 this way. -Paul
liveinabin #25 Posted November 28, 2001 I don't have a digital camera so I'll have to find some other way of getting my scores in (scanning polaroids??) But for what it's worth, I've hit 5.71 seconds a few times on Dragster but I can't seem to get past that.
