birdie3 #1 Posted December 24, 2004 Are these worth getting? Do they actually improve the gameplay any?
SS #2 Posted December 24, 2004 They're basically a paddle, right? I've never used one so I can't advise how the response is but I'd have to thing that a paddle would have to be better than a pad for an "Arkanoid" type of game.
Atarian75 #3 Posted December 24, 2004 Are these worth getting? Do they actually improve the gameplay any? Yes, they are worth getting. I think the game is pretty much unplayable without them. Just my 2 cents. -Atarian75
wberdan #4 Posted December 24, 2004 from what i remember- when i was a kid- the onscreen thing moves WAY faster with the paddle- but i always used the control pad, cause it was too 'different' for me at the time. i would be willing to bet though that if you want to get far in the game- you need it. willie
Inky #5 Posted December 24, 2004 The paddle is a MUST for Arkanoid!
J.Max #6 Posted December 24, 2004 Yes, you need the paddle for Arkanoid.
Rockin' Kat #7 Posted December 24, 2004 I'd never play any version of Arkanoid without either a paddle or a mouse. Analog controll is a must in my opinion.
donkeykong1 #8 Posted December 26, 2004 Get it, it's better than using just the regular controller.
Famicoman #9 Posted December 28, 2004 I'd get it for the cool factor. Does it really have to be used?
Radio F Software #10 Posted December 29, 2004 It's pretty hard to find but I'd get one. Ive tried playing games with the keyboard or controller and it sucks.
Xot #11 Posted December 29, 2004 It is POSSIBLE to play with the control pad - in the sense that it will move the Vaus. However, once you get to about the third level, it is no longer possible to move the Vaus fast enough to keep up with the ball, hence, it is no longer possible to advance without the cheat code. thegamezmaster #12 Posted December 29, 2004 It's the only was to really play this game!
birdie3 #13 Posted December 29, 2004 ******I have found the ultimate combination: MAME + Arkanoid + mouse controller = Fun!!!!!! I like the NES but getting that controller is a bit of an annoyance.
figgler #14 Posted January 12, 2005 So is the Vaus contoller actually compatible with anything else?
Susuwatari #15 Posted January 12, 2005 No. The controller was only used with Arkanoid game. No other game ever supported the controller.

Agreed. It would take a miracle for you to make it past level 3 on NES Arkanoid without cheating and without the paddle controller. --Jason
chrisbid #17 Posted January 12, 2005 my arkanoid controller is off center, i move all the way to the right, and there is a half an inch of open space between the ship and the wall i took it apart to see if it could be adjusted, but i couldnt remove the board from the controller without some major force, and i was afraid to break it
Susuwatari #18 Posted January 13, 2005 Next to the knob should be either a black plug or a hole. If there's a black plug you can pup it out. Insert a screwwdriver into that hole and you can adjust for that little offset issue. It's in the Arkanoid manual.

chrisbid #21 Posted January 13, 2005 the laser is useless in level 3, most of the blocks are behind gold bricks and even with the paddle, im having a hard time getting past level

Even a trackball gets above mouse in the fun list. Of course, for the ultimate, you'd have to get one of those geared dials like they actually used in the Arkanoid machines. Tempest #24 Posted January 13, 2005 So guy was selling NIB NES Arkanoids for $20 a year or two ago. Glad I picked mine up when I did, as those controllers are a bitch to find in working condition. Tempest
