GTA for the NES?

Recommended Posts

In retrospect, my opinion is that this was all scam, and likely the game never even existed. In following everything, it's clear he was hellbent on not releasing anything.

There were never any WIP's, him claiming he wanted to wait till it was complete. Ok, fair enough, others have done the same.

But then, it WAS complete, and he still didn't release it. Instead he wanted to BS around with wanting to do a propriatory mapper on a one-off custom hardware cart. What would have been the end result of that, a rom that no one on the planet could use except him, which defeats the goal of publicly releasing this for free.

Of course, he claimed he would release the source for the mapper so the emu devs could write a plug-in, but really, now many devs were going to spend time writting a custom plug-in for a single PD game? And then how long before that plug-in got ported to all the other emu's that people wanted to use?

Bottom line is it was complete, and was compatable with standard nes cart formats and emu's, and he still chose to not release it with the intention of RE-coding it around a hardware cart which was never his stated intention, custom hardware noless that he never intented to sell, so as few people as possible could ever actually play the thing.

Now the entire project is gone, maybe because of legal issues as some suggested. But I can't help but to think if he had just did what he said he was going to do and release it when it was done back when it was DONE, we'd all be playing it right now. But he had to go and be a Todd about it, and we all still have nothing and no prospect of getting anything in the future.

Yeah, I'm just a wee bit pi&@ed about it all, as if you couldn't tell. :_( :x

Even though it was pre-Youtube, I'm guessing that there were never any videos of the game in action? All I ever remember seeing was a screen shot of what the streets/buildings would look like.

Ah, mappers, the bane of NES homebrew progress, custom mappers even more so.

(If he had tried doing this for Sega Genesis, he wouldn't have the mapper excuse! But the name wouldn't have been as cool.)
