ClassicBoy #2 Posted January 5, 2005 Anyone know a place to get NES 72 pin connectors really cheap? I have a friend who needed a connector for the NES a week or two ago. He just called Nintendo and asked to buy one. They had them in stock but not for sale on their website. After trying to sell him on the merits of owning one of Nintendo's current machines, they just sent it to him for free. Best of luck. I'd give them a call. Blackjack #3 Posted January 5, 2005 I think I'll try that..... but I've got 4 old systems I've been putting off restoring and I doubt they'll send me more than one connector

I always liked Nintendo's customer service. From my original NES (which I no longer have) to my SNES (which I do still have) and my Gamecube I've always had good experiences. I actually have 4 dead NES' my dad brought me that he had picked up at yardsales. I think I'll call Nintendo myself and see if I can pick up a few! n8littlefield #5 Posted January 5, 2005 If you have no luck, I just ordered one off ebay today from this person: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...8158115907&rd=1 If you're in the US, 8.24 after shipping. I don't have them in hand yet, so buyer beware, but it was the best price I could find.
Blackjack #6 Posted January 5, 2005 So where do these sellers get theirs?
Famicoman #7 Posted January 5, 2005 I think sellers get them from NES consoles that they got that have unsolveable problems, but they make sure the connector is top notch.

There is an old thread in this forum that mentioned a few sellers which some forum members had bought NES connectors from. They also talked if buying gold painted or plaing silver pins made any difference.
madmjennifer #9 Posted January 5, 2005 Don't buy one from an online electronics supply store. I bought one from such a place several months ago listed for around $10. That was okay but then the place didn't list the shipping price on my order. When I finally received my online invoice (after it was too late to cancel), I saw they charged $10 shipping! It came in a comically large box for such a small item (to justify the inflated shipping I suppose). Anyways, I guess the moral is to never confirm an online order without seeing the shipping cost. I don't remember the name of the store - something like MIME.
Blackjack #10 Posted January 5, 2005 I found the old posts with the gold vs. silver argument. I guess I'll ebay a few silver ones.
Cobra Commander #11 Posted January 5, 2005 I got one recently got one of these and it didnt work right of the bat, I had to push the upper pins down to get them to contact properly, no biggie. The seller I got from on Ebay (Callisto or game source or something like that) sent me the wrong item at first a nintendo AV cord, wich I needed anyway, so they just gave it to me for free. Then I had to call back 2 more times to get them to send me the right item, when I got it finaly it was an after market controller, I was a bout to call a bitch, then decided open the box and there it was inside next to the controller. So I got 2 free items and left neutral feedback. I did look at their feedback and they were super busy, with a few negs out of 1000's, some similar to my situation, wrong item, made it up with free item, and so on. There's a NES site I found through DP I think that tells you how to rig up an old connector to work, wich I've tried with moderate success. You just pushbend the pins back into place, try this with an old one while you wait for the new one to arive. I got mine to work as long as I didnt want to change games alot. goatdan #12 Posted January 5, 2005 A few notes on them: Bending the pins back into place is unfortunately a pretty crummy fix. It only works for a short period before they bend back. New ones are much more strong... at least for a while. If you replace it, don't shove a cart in and out of it to loosen it up. The tightness will go away through time, and it will naturally adjust to the size of the cartridges you own, instead of being forced into a larger size. If you're very careful, one 72 pin connector should last years. I still have managed to keep my original NES one working, but I have probably replaced over 100 of them for the GOAT Store now, and most of them die from people forcing in games. And I fully endorse blowing on the cartridges. I have never had a problem with that

Or just stuff a Game Genie in it and get it over with quick. And I fully endorse blowing on the cartridges. I have never had a problem with that EVIL! Rockin' Kat #14 Posted January 5, 2005 I got my replacement cart ports from MCM electronics. They're new and slightly different than the original car port... fit tighter..and can be royally hozed by Game Genies(a friend of mine brought his game Genie over... I don't even have one of the rotten things... put it in and it pushed a bunch of the pins out the back.. fortuantly it wasn't too difficult to push the pins back in from the back of the connector) In general, outside of the Game Genie thing, they pretty much work for every game I've tried in them. goatdan #17 Posted January 5, 2005 Oh, I don't know how good the price is, but if anyone needs one I have a few at the GOAT Store that aren't listed on our site that I could part with for $8.00 before shipping. If anyone wants them, PM me and I'll put them up on the site to purchase I have them on hand as repair parts right now.

Lost Monkey #19 Posted January 5, 2005 Before you decide to buy a new connector, you may want to read this thread: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20849
goatdan #20 Posted January 5, 2005 I've been lucky so far. All of the connectors I have replaced have had a 100% success rate. I am still waiting to find ones that don't work, because I heard about how poorly manufactured they were, but so far.... nothing. I do personally think it is totally worth the change.
