Mindfield #1 Posted January 10, 2005 For anyone who's interested, CodeJedi have been working on a freeware multi-machine emulator for PalmOS 5 machines (including Zodiac) called Guinnea Pig. Aside from Genesis, SMS, GameGear and TG16 modules, they've recently added a very basic 2600 module. So far as my limited testing has produced, it seems only to support standard 2/4k ROMs (at least, the few bankswitched/extended RAM games I've tried didn't work), the sound is dodgy at best and collision detection is screwy, but it's a good start when all that's been on the Palm emu scene so far is Atari Retro. My own tests were done on my Zire72, as always YMMV. Apparently doesn't like Zire71s or T|E machines due to low heap space.
atari_aaron #2 Posted January 11, 2005 That's cool, any visuals available of GuineaPig stuff for the 2600?
Mindfield #3 Posted January 11, 2005 That's cool, any visuals available of GuineaPig stuff for the 2600? There are a few screenshots on the GunneaPig page (River Raid and Battlezone -- which come to think of it means it can play 8k banked, too). I've tried a few games on it so far. Adventure is playable, but only if you personally enforce collision detection -- you can walk right through walls. :-) Artillery Duel works but is unplayable due to the fact that when the game starts your turret just keeps falling - right through the landscape. The keys could use remapping, too; at present, the nav is your joystick, schedule (or Camera on the Z72) is fire, and nav select is reset -- not very intuitive since it's pretty easy to hit nav select when moving around. It's still extremely basic though -- this is the first release with 2600 support, so I expect compatibility and speed to improve as the bugs are eliminated. atari_aaron #4 Posted January 14, 2005 I can't seem to find the screenshots of the 2600 stuff. You wouldn't happen to have a url handy?
Mindfield #5 Posted January 14, 2005 I can't seem to find the screenshots of the 2600 stuff. You wouldn't happen to have a url handy? River Raid Battlezone (1) Battlezone (2) FWIW they're about halfway down the page on the main GuinneaPig page under "Screenshots of GuinneaPig". atari_aaron #6 Posted January 14, 2005 Sorry, I must have selective vision. The screenshots look pretty good. Do you think its going to progress much beyond the 2/4k?
