Dones #1 Posted January 11, 2005 Anyone played this yet? The gaming press is raving about this one, with a gamerankings score of 98% (at the time of this posting). The reviews are all positive with major pluses on the graphics. The reviews from IGN, Gamespot and Gamespy all seem to agree that even though the game still controls like a tank, the addition of quick action keys and refined camera makes up for it. The tank controls has always been my turn off from the series. I sure wanna play it to find out, but is anyone out there more or less thinking the same? Would the game's extraordinary graphics make the reviewers forgiving about the controls? If you played it, tell us what you think.
AtariAger #2 Posted January 11, 2005 I've played the demo at Gamestop...Excellent game! "Like driving a tank", true...but the graphics and other game options are outstanding! The laser scope is SWEET! I pre-ordered my limited edition copy 2 weeks ago...it will be out this Wednesday!
xenomorpher #3 Posted January 11, 2005 Im going to trade in a crap load of games for this at EB because this was one of the main reasons why I bought a Gamecube. Im very excited and looks very good.
zombiecraig #4 Posted January 11, 2005 I love horror in general, but have never really been a fan of the series due to the control. I did get the GameCube remake back when it came out, but still haven't finished it due to too many games! I must say that even with too many games(!), I am terribly tempted to get this. Dones #5 Posted January 11, 2005 Leave it to the guys at liksang.com to get the most unusual stuff. They say the gamepad actually makes a chainsaw sound when used

Dones #7 Posted January 11, 2005 Yeah. I just saw the controller at ebgames.com (for the same price as the game). This will probably end up selling on ebay for outrageous sums in a few years.
King Atari #8 Posted January 11, 2005 Gotta go pick my copy up in a few hours. Can't wait!
slip81 #9 Posted January 13, 2005 I got the CE one from Gamestop today, but haven't played it yet. It looks outstanding though. I also really want that controller
AtariAger #10 Posted January 13, 2005 Just picked up my Special Edition copy also...they suckered me into buying the 200 page guide book also! Also reserved my copy of, "The Legend of Zelda" for Gamecube!!!(March)
King Atari #11 Posted January 13, 2005 D'oh! Forgot all about the new Zelda coming out! I'm not a big fan of the series after the original two games (yes, I like Zelda II), but this new one looks pretty sweet. I ended up reserving the PSP yesterday. $50, geez. At least that's a good chunk of it already paid. I won't have time to get into RE4 until tomorrow (studying for exams, tomorrow is my last day), and it's killing me. AtariAger #12 Posted January 13, 2005 D'oh! Forgot all about the new Zelda coming out! I'm not a big fan of the series after the original two games (yes, I like Zelda II), but this new one looks pretty sweet. The new Zelda for the Gamecube is supposedly based on I & II from the NES...Link all grown up, so it is basically Zelda III on the modern system! I ended up reserving the PSP yesterday. $50, geez. At least that's a good chunk of it already paid. ...It is [email protected]$$!!!
Dones #13 Posted January 13, 2005 Also reserved my copy of, "The Legend of Zelda" for Gamecube!!!(March) Don't take this the wrong way, but considering Nintendo's track record for keeping release dates, I wouldn't hold my breath.
AncillaryDrone #14 Posted January 13, 2005 So has anybody else played this yet? I've been playing it since tuesday and I still havent got to the second disc yet. This is the kind of game that makes me wish I didnt have to go to work. I want to be playing it every waking moment. It's so different than the last RE game, its like they combined Resident Evil with Medal of Honor and Max Payne. It also reminds me of Chiller at times. slip81 #15 Posted January 14, 2005 I played it for a little while and was greatly impressed, especially by the graphics and sound. Though I'm sucking at it right now cause I always have a hard time with aiming in games. I wish it had a lock on or auto aim feature. It doesn't seem that hard yet, though I hear it gets pretty hairy the deeper you go in. I'm gonna finnish Suikoden IV and then start RE. Also there is a person over at the gamespot forums whose supposedly beaten it and claims that it's 18 hours long. If that's true that will be nice cause usualy the RE games are rather short. Jess Ragan #16 Posted January 14, 2005 Three words describe my impression of Resident Evil 4: "Stunned and amazed". I never liked the series in the past... I struggled halfway through the Saturn version of the original, only to quit in disgust when my supply of ammo ran out, but the monsters just kept on comin'. Like the previous Resident Evil games, this one's hard... but it doesn't stack the odds against you with a limited supply of ammo or lousy control. The control still doesn't feel quite as fast or responsive as most of today's games, but it's immensely improved over past games in the series. This time, Leon actually moves in the direction you point the joystick! Firing is faster and less awkward as well, with an onscreen crosshair that helps you line up shots quickly. You'll need this quick response time when dealing with the maggot-filled marauders in the unnamed European town you'll be visiting. They're smarter than your average zombie (and a whole lot more resilient), but you can tell that there's something very wrong with the citizens of this village. I don't want to give too much away, but if you've ever played the Dreamcast game Carrier you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the enemies in Resident Evil 4. Ammo's in fair supply, although you'll have to do some backtracking to keep your pistol and shotgun fed. There's also a bunch of satisfying new weapons that add variety to the game and make it oh so much fun to blast the game's neo-zombies. You can also target specific areas of your foes, kind of like House of the Dead 2... the only problem I've noticed is that many of the zombies' heads seem bulletproof and will soak up the damage before finally exploding. Don't get too frustrated, though... it's explained later on in the game why headshots aren't an especially effective way of dealing with the undead. The graphics are fantastic... there's a lot of brown and grey going on but this style fits the dark storyline. Characters are beautifully rendered, even trivial ones like cows, bats, and crows. The cut scenes are especially impressive, with subtle facial expressions that are a cut above the typically manniquin-like animation you'll see in most video games. The bottom line is, it's a great game. Believe me when I say that even people who hated the other Resident Evil games will love every minute of this one. jr2084 #17 Posted January 15, 2005 I just finished Resident Evil 4 last night and I just have one thing to say: Totally Awesome.
xenomorpher #18 Posted January 15, 2005 I got it today and I died twice by the chainsaw guys (god they are cool but I hate them) and I dont know where to go (In the place where you have to go in the house and get the shotgun and I found a gem thing). Man the enemies are hard compared to zombies! So far I love it and probably still love when I continue on. I love how the A button works and like the idea you can jump out the window and shoot through wooden doors.
Dones #19 Posted January 15, 2005 Wow sounds like a great game. After reading Jess' opinion I can't wait to play RE4. So the tank controls are no longer a hindrance? Anyone got the chainsaw controller yet?
xenomorpher #20 Posted January 16, 2005 Wow sounds like a great game. After reading Jess' opinion I can't wait to play RE4. So the tank controls are no longer a hindrance? Anyone got the chainsaw controller yet? After I got used to the controls they seemed very natural. The boss fights are fun and exciting and the puzzles are actually fun. The whole game so far is just so fun. If they changed the name and other stuff you could not tell it was supposed to be a Resident Evil game. This one of those games you dont get bored quickly with. I would also know if anyone got the chainsaw controller, it looks pretty awesome.
