Stingray #1 Posted January 12, 2005 Although I loved the actual gameplay in Sons of Liberty, the cutscenes ruined it for me. Play ten seconds, watch a two minute movie. Play five minutes, watch a 30 minute movie. Might not have been so awful but the story was stupid and and only got stupider as the game progressed. There were too many, they were too long and they were terrible. So anyway, is Snake Eater the same deal? The game looks fun in the trailer, but I'm not sitting through another six hours of story that can only be fully understood and appreciated if you happen to be mixing LSD with drain cleaner at the time. -S
PaulEMoz #2 Posted January 12, 2005 In the first two and a half hours, you get to actually "play" for about twenty minutes. Hope that helps.
Stingray #3 Posted January 12, 2005 Sadly that's what I expected. I guess this one stays on the "must miss" list. -S
xenomorpher #4 Posted January 12, 2005 There isnt as many cutscenes. They are there when needed and there is a lot of action in gameplay and I dont know why people get upset because the cut scenes are very cool and action packed in this game. Though if its a fuss then why not solve it by pressing some buttons to skip them. I guess the newer MGS games are becoming more just for the fans that crave the storyline (Me which is probably why I dont mind infact thats probably why I love the cutscenes). And to solve the radio chatter hold in triangle. Plus there is a mini game like Ape Escape which is fun.
PaulEMoz #5 Posted January 12, 2005 MGS3 is ENTIRELY for fans of the previous games. There's no way this will convert anybody that's not a fan (me included). When I say I actually played for twenty minutes out of the first two and a half hours, I'm not joking or exaggerating. You say, "skip the cutscenes", but what's the point of that when the cutscenes are telling the all-important story? If you're going to play this, you need to experience all parts of it or it doesn't make sense. The first time I played this was late at night, and I actually went to sleep during one extended cutscene. Maybe the cutscenes ease up later in the game, I suppose I'll find out. Or not, if I just take the game back to Blockbuster.
figgler #6 Posted January 12, 2005 What’s the deal with the cut scenes anyway? The first Metal Gear is the best one and hasn’t any cut scenes at all - I’m sure that’s no coincidence. When MGS debuted on the PS I figured they included the cutscenes just because they could. “Oh look a CD, think of all the cinemas we can make!” But that point’s been long proven and truth be told, it’s now rather lame. Just like any other game, cinemas have their place, but it’s become an over compensation IMO. Great games are able to tell their story largely through gameplay with cutscenes to help it along. MGS is the exact opposite and it’s just poor form that exemplifies the producer’s inability to get his messages across by using the actual media he’s supposed to. Stingray #7 Posted January 12, 2005 Not to mention the basic issue here. I buy a game to play a game. If I wanted to watch a bad movie there are plenty on TV every night. -S

He made it for the loyal fans. It is a great game and all the cut scenes are awesome (Ecspecially with ones with Ocelot and I liked it when Snake did the CQC moves with the soldiers, it was all momentum). If you dont give a crap about the story then skipping the cutscenes should be no problem. Plus if you beat the game I believe there is a demo mode so you can just sit back and watch everything when you feel like it.
Shannon #9 Posted January 15, 2005 I dunno.... sometimes I think these game directors are movie wannabe directors. Some of the camera movement during cut scenes I see in these videogames is just plain idiotic. Funny thing, on metal gear substance my son used to spend hours on that one level where the guy is giving a speech knocking down all the bad guys like bowling pins.
