Anybody else get this magazine? Does anyone else know that it just ended its run? It says that something will be done with the subscriptions, but it doesn't state it clearly. Does anyone know anything about this?

I used to get GMR but to tell you the truth I didnt like it. They sometimes compare games that have little in common and some that arent even on the same system which is a bit weird.

They just stopped producing it, along with some of their other magazines. It was well broadcasted a couple of months in advance, though.

X Box Nation went under too. Really pissed me off as I thought about getting a subscription, as advertised with the XBox system I got in December. I bet a LOT of potential subscribers get screwed on that one.

I used to get for free with my EB "Frequent Sucker" card, but they wanted me to start paying for it so I said forget it. I liked it OK enough, it was the only way I could keep up with new stuff coming out. I might get a subscription to something else now though.

 

Any recomendations for subscriptions?

Well, really, the only decent gaming mag left is EGM, but they've really fallen off in quality since the Ralph Baer-profiling days of a few years ago.

 

This is a seriously bad time for gaming media. There used to be a lot of great mags - EGM, Next Generation, Gamers Republic, GameFan, etc. Most of these were big and thick (anyone remember those heavy-duty, often shiny and expensive-looking Next Gen covers?); I remember EGM used to top out at around 300 pages some months. Sure, a lot of that was ads, but a lot of it wasn't... and I actually like looking at video game ads anyway. The point was, it was 300 pages of video game stuff, including a lot of good editorial that went beyond the simple buyer's guide type content they (and everyone else) have these days.

 

But EGM's still better than anyone else. All the other good mags have folded, and the competition that's left has fallen even faster in terms of quality than EGM has.

 

I wish I saved some of those old EGM's and NextGens... I have a few but not the best ones.

GMR underrated games too much. I Enjoy Gamestop's magazine of choice, Game Informer.

I liked gmr i liked it alot more then mags like game pro or opm i down right hated those. Im kinda bummed but i only read it while i was on the commode any way. I dont think ill be getting a subscription to any other mags though game informer always managed to piss me off for some reason.

I liked XBN the best of all the USA game mags ... it was reasonably "adult" without pandering to the "girls-guns-gore" crowd. Sorry to see it go away "for a while." I shudder to think what they will replace my subscription with.

 

When Next Gen folded, I got the most peurile Playstation rag I've ever seen. It seemed to be aimed squarely at the groins of 11-year-old boys.

 

I wish USA magazines were as nice as the UK's GAMES TM and RETRO GAMER.

I have prtyy much decided that there is no need for a video game mag subscription anymore. With the internet, who needs it. You can get informaiton faster on the net. When was the last time you learned something you didn't already know from EGM?

I like to read mags, specialy on the crapper. I like all the screen shots, interviews, big colorfull ads. and I cant fold the internet inhalf and put it in my back pocket.

Games™ has their regular articles, and there's a good retro computer and gaming section in the last third of the mag. The only problem is that Games™ is imported from the UK, and doesn't reflect American game releases.

Since my gmr subscription is no more the only mag i get is fangoria. And i dont plan on getting any other gaming mags x play is enough for my gaming news at this point.

Games™ has their regular articles, and there's a good retro computer and gaming section in the last third of the mag. The only problem is that Games™ is imported from the UK, and doesn't reflect American game releases.

That's part of the charm IMHO. I love their view of us as the country with too many guns and too much beef to eat. :wink:

Games™ is the ONLY mag worth reading. Even if the releases are off and such, the content more than makes up for it
