Power Joy question

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I picked up a handheld called the "Power Joy" at a thrift today and I assume it is a Famiclone however when I hooked it up and plugged the cart in the bottom I found it doesnt have NES titles like Mario but odd looking games called "Kittie" "Front Line" etc. plus several versions of Dig Dug and Galaga which is spelled wrong. Question is what are these strange games it contains, are they Japanese Famicom games or just something the Bootleggers made up? Any info appreciated.

Those are pirated ROMs of Japanese Nintendo games, and they're oddly spelled to try to dodge copyright law. I've got one (mine's a Super Joy III), and it allegedly has 76,000 games on it. But in reality, it's got about 30 or 40 games, but the menu is filled with slight misspellings of the games and loaded with level hacks, so it'll take up 76,000 spots in the thing's menu.

Yeah that makes sense I noticed after fooling around with it that "Space ET" is Space Invaders, most of the games are strange lookin stuff I never saw before so it must just be games not released in the US

There's a bunch of games on it that were released in the US, but there's also the odd game here and there that weren't, like Macross and Mappy.

So much for the theory that the Power Joy is junk!

Almost four years since I picked it up at a thrift store for $3 and it is still going strong.

I did a count of the games on the multi-cart to weed out the repeats and weird hacks and there are 54 games on it. Not bad at all for a console that cost less than a Happy Meal ;)

I have really been enjoying Challenger, Devil World and Nuts and Milk. Nintendo screwed up by not offering those games for sale in the US.

Devil World is WAY fun. I have it for the Famicom, I am pretty sure I have it on a multicart (I have a couple different Power Joys, as well as other clones), and I have it for the One Station as well (handheld clone cart player).

How old is your Power Joy? Is it is just "Power Joy?" Does your multicart have a hacked version of Duck Hunt on it called UFO?

I've got some oddities on the multicart that came with one of the Power Joys I have...snagged it from a thrift... I figured the $3 tag was worth it to investigate the cart if nothing else.

Good times!
