dwh
Help! How does one get the Lord Of The Rings ROM to work in the Z26 program???As proof of how little I understand this, I do not have the list of games come up when Z26 first starts(at least that is what I think it is suppose to do?)I know that this site has posted that you have to reset the cartridge format to G3--my question is how??I have read the readme file and seen the F1 help file, and I do not get it!So please any input will help. +-^CrossBow^-
Well you have to specify the -g3 switch when you type out the z26 command to execute the rom. For example if you have the lord of the rings rom in a directory called ROMS. So then let's say this ROMS directory is actually in the directory you have Z26 in. Then you would need to type... z26 -g3 .roms(romfile.bin) and it should load it up... as for why you don't see a list of roms, this is because by default z26 will assume all the roms are in the current directory that z26 resides in. If you want it to look in another directory then you have to specify that in the config file that z26 creates. At least I believe that z26 has a config file you can store common used switches to and have it refer from. I myself use StellaX for windows 2600 emulation and for the new games, I manaually fire them up with z26, however there is a horrible buzzing sound in XP with z26 and the SBLive! Not to mention much slower speed. But it does all work. Hope that helps...
dwh
no luck yet--here is what I did--I have all the roms in a folder named 'z26',the program 'z26' is also there in that folder.I also have a shortcut to Z26 on the desktop(is this O.K.?)So I doubleclick the z26 shortcut and it starts, then I typed in 'z26-g3.z26lordofthering.bin'(you can not see this typing, which 'really helps')All that comes up is a few lines of black and orange pattern with a buzzing noise.(I also reloaded the rom,but no difference)So what am I doing wrong? +-^CrossBow^-
First you will have to execute this one differently. If you must use shortcuts then simply make a copy of the one you normally use for all your other stuff. Then edit the properties of the shortcut so that it start up z26 like this... z26 -g3 LOTR.bin BTW...I had to rename the lord of the rings bin file because XP didn't like the long file in dos mode...it simply never could find it. so I renamed it as LOTR.bin try that and see what happens. Or...now that a Stella.pro file exist with the LOTR proto in it...try using StellaX which is all windows based.
dwh
Looks like I will be switching to StellaX.I do not understand why I would have to make a diff shortcut for each cartridge setup type,so much for "user friendly"--about as good as "paperless society".Computers are only as smart as the people using them, which doesn't say much for my IQ!Thanks for the help anyway. ubersaurus
you could just wait a few days for the update.
Alex
I'm sure z26 will be updated shortly with the proper support. Then you'll just be able to run z26 and click on the LotR game and it will run. It's just tricky right now because it's a new release. dwh
O.K., I'll just sit on my hands here and try not to mess up the computer till the update is released!

You must use the good old command line, to provide the parameters for z26. First rename the file into something shorter, eg. lotr.bin. Then start MS-DOS (inside or outside Windows 9x, ME doesn't mater), switch to the z26 directory (using cd) and then type: z26_-g3_lotr.bin The _ represent spaces, which are very important! dwh
I had a hunch that this had to be done in ms-dos,and made a feeble attemp at it late last night.I'll try again tonight and let everyone know if I am able to learn any new tricks...
