My first ColecoVision!

Recommended Posts

I just bought my first ColecoVision at a 2nd hand store for $20 (Canadian) complete with the games listed below.

I'm a lot more familiar with the Atari 2600 I've had since 1984. I knew Coleco exited but don't remember seeing one at the stores and probably why I never wanted one. The unit's more bulkier than Atari VCS, lacks difficulty switches etc, and for some reason has the power supply outside. Of course if it were inside the Coleco Vision itself would have to be even bigger. The graphics and sounds are more advance that Atari VCS. Was that the reason for having to build it this way?

Anyway, here's a list of games that came with it.

I'm curious to know the rarity and any easter eggs in each.

COSMIC AVENGER

BLACKJACK / POKER (Ken Uston's)

BUCK ROGERS - planet of zoom

CENTIPEDE

DEFENDER

GORF

LOGIC LEVELS (Fisher-Price) by Frieda Lekkerker inc. '84

MOON SWEEPER '83

MOUSE TRAP

MR. DO!

PEPPER II

SUBROC

STAR TREK - strategic operations simulator ('83 Sega Enterprise inc.)

STAR WARS '83

SMURF - rescue in Gargamel's Castle

Q*BERT'S QUBES

VENTURE

WAR-ROOM (by RoSHa Harris 1982 Hap Consumer Elec.)

ZAXXON (The Official Zaxxon)

That is a pretty good score for $20!

The CV has a little tiny motherboard, the entire left side of the console is there to hold the controllers in place...

Well, I think the main reason it was big was the controller storage. You could just chop off that side of the console without that. This was the style back in the day; it was expected that you provide controller storage between 1981-1984. The CV, Intellivision and Atari 5200 all had it, and they were all big systems because of it. It was one of the selling points over the older 2600.

I personally think the CV is one of the best looking consoles ever made, in the same way that, for example, the Dodge Charger is one of the best looking cars ever made. Big doesn't always mean ugly IMO.

Qbert Cubes alone is worth 40$ on ebay. The whole package you got for 20$ would normally sell for 100$+ on ebay anytime. I say you just found a treasure right there.

Great deal! The CV is a great console, probably my all time fav in fact. Enjoy it!

Cherish that setup. You've got many of the best titles available for that system. Adding Galaxian, Jumpman Jr, and Turbo to that setup would pretty much round it out for awesome Coleco action. Best of luck!
