Robert M #1 Posted February 6, 2005 Hello, I have been playing Raiden lately and getting the hang of it too. I have noticed that after the 4th level the levels begin repeating again. I have only gotten to level 6 (a.k.a level 2 redo). Does anyone know if that's all there is to the game? Just the 4 levels? Or if you beat them all again you get a new level? Thanks,
bergbros2 #2 Posted February 6, 2005 Yes, Virginia, there are only four levels, no more, no less. I am impressed that you got through al four. The game is harder than overcooked pork chops to paly. Did you have to use any continues? Do you play the game vertically or sideways. I do it sideways. Much easier to control. I also use homing missles because I can remove bosses and harder enemies better without having to go into their line of fire.
Robert M #3 Posted February 6, 2005 Thanks, that's what I suspected. Only four levels. I have only beaten level 4 once, and then I got back to level 2/6. I used all my continues on level 4 because I have so little experience with that level. For me the key thing is that the levels are completely scripted as to when the enemies start and where, so a lot of my success have come from making sure I am in the right place at the right time to kill a big gun before it can spray a cloud of bullets. I think the machine guns are an okay weapon choice for level 1, but for levels 2 and 3 I didn't have success until I went with the blue lasers. The laser can kill the bosses in less than 2 seconds and that makes all the difference. The machine guns are a good weapon in the 4th level to cut a path through the meteor showers. Homing missles are a definite must have item. They can hit things off screen that are shooting at you. I have noticed that while you can hold down the button for continuous firing in the case of missles you launch them faster by tapping the fire button. I have also found it useful to use my bombs as a sort of shield. I can drop and bomb and sit in the middle of it or put it on my flank and hardly anything in the game can get through it to you. If you lose a life with bombs left you are not dropping enough bombs IMO. You don't need bombs for the bosses. You main gun should wipe them out. I play in side scroll mode. I mostly play with it scrolling left to right, but I did play it scrolling right to left a couple times (gotta love that lynx flip feature ) and I found it to be good practice. Sorry for the ramble. I guess I am really in a talkative mood about Raiden. Cheers!
Serblander #4 Posted March 21, 2005 I'm still after this game for my Lynx (as i love it on my Jag). Too bad that it's only 4 levels (there's 8 different levels on the Jag before you get to 'clock' it). I imagine the Lynx version plays well? Esp. in Comlynx mode?! Any places that still sell it? Songbird #5 Posted March 22, 2005 Yes, Songbird still sells this game -- though I may be down to my last copy. Let me know if interested, or feel free to order directly off my website.

IMO, Raiden is the best of Telegames' late- '90s releases. It's a superb port of the arcade game -- think of a mini version of the Jag release -- and great fun to play, if a bit too hard. It's missing the great in-game soundtrack and a few levels, but is still well-worth the money spent.
