I always suspected something a little less than innocent was happening inside the castle on SMB1 after you rode the flagpole, entered the castle and fireworks went off. Actually, you wouldn't think Mario would be up (ha ha) to much after sliding down a flagpole. I imagine that incurs quite a bit of chafing.
