Best first-person RPG (Besides Dungeon Master)?

Recommended Posts

There were a few of these that came out after Dungeon Master, but none of them really held my interest like that game did. Even Chaos Strikes Back with it's higher difficulty didn't do it for me. One thing I liked about DM was it's speed. Seems many games after it spruced up the graphics at the price of speed.

So, what other games were DM-like and fun? Ishar? Towers? Knightmare?

It´s hard to find a real good RPG on the ST, DM and CSB were the best.

Other RPGs were good, but not first-person.

Time to set up my ST and play DM for nights. :)

There were a few shareware DM-wannabe games that were quite fun, although nothing I'd really put on the same level as DM. I can't remember the names of any of them right now.

My all-time favourites:

- Captive (Anthony Crowther, released by Mindscape; I still can't figure out how he fit all those literally hundreds of levels on one 720k floppy)

- Knightmare (Anthony Crowther, released by Mindscape; released after Captive and based on some British TV series, though I didn't know that back when I first played it and still haven't seen the show)

- Fate: Gates of Dawn (can't recall author or publisher). Huge world, great gameplay and graphics. Bit of a hard one to find for some reason, but worth finding it.

- The Ishar series (I, II and III, published by Silmarils): Classic dungeon and above-ground RPG. Awesome graphics thanks to some tom-foolery that displayed images in 32 colours, great sound and gameplay.

- Legends of Valour (can't recall publisher): Okay, some mightn't have liked this, but it was probably the first and only texture mapped free-roaming 3D RPG for the ST. Great for that novelty if nothing else. Slow, though.

- Legend of Faerghail (published, I think, by Silmarils): On a par with the Ishar series. Very in-depth.

- Drakkhen (can't recall publisher): first person 3D using a combination of polygon and sprite graphics. Halfway between action and RPG with fight sequences that resemble Sega's Space Harrier's undulating sprite-based creatures. A different sort of RPG.

Amberstar

as well as some of the ones previously mentioned in this thread:

Dungeon Master

Legends Of Valor

Knightmare was an excellent first-person RPG. Of course, it doesn't hold a candle to Dungeon Master, but it's still one of the better games out there. It gets the Hulsie seal of approval![/i]
