Blast! Off! - 12 Inch Rocket

Recommended Posts

I had a number of these when I was a kid in the late '70s/early '80s, but none had the Atari brand on them. They worked pretty well, but inevitably, I would always over-pump and break them.

Holy crap - my brother & I each had one of those ET trays. Too bad they are long gone.

I had one of those when I was a kid...Again NOT an Atari one.

I never even knew that existed!

Pretty cool.

Now I want one. :)

But how many of you really had the big 2-stage water rocket like on the right side of the page (even without the Atari logo)? I had one but it never worked right - the staging valve was too stiff and would not release (or sometimes not connect), so the whole frustrating thing got smashed and trashed pretty quickly. I had a lot of fun with the common 6 inch rockets, though. Probably went through a half dozen of those.

Nope mine wasnt the two stage one.

Just the standard 6 inch.

Remember though, Its not the size of the rocket that matters...It's how you use it.

I had the two stage one, but not with an Atari Logo. I really don't remember if mine worked right or not. Been too long ago. I probably made a bong out of mine when I was a teenager. ;)

We had one made out of a 2 liter soda bottle. It was hooked up to a bicycle pump. A friend got the plans out of some magazine. Needless to say, it was a lot more fun than the little 6 inchers... :o

Start pumping the bike pump.... and BOOM!!!!

Went way up in the air...

I had one of the little ones... it would go so far sometimes that we wouldn't find it for a week.

On Hey! Spring of Trivia! they did an experiment to see how many made of plastic bottles

it would take to lift a person off the ground.

Yeah those are a lot of fun, plus they have the added benefit of soaking anyone who happens to be too close to the launch pad durung liftoff. :)

In my high school physics class we had an assignment to modify a two-liter in order to get it to fly the farthest. Then everybody brought theirs to class, we went out to the football field on the goal line, and shot em off - mine had lovely cardboard fins (to give it spin and stability) and a Star Wars action figure (a Stormtrooper) duct-taped on top - let's just say he took one for the team :)

Anyway, mine went about 50 yards (launched at approx 45 degrees). Fun times. :)
