I Finally Broke 300,000 on Pacman Plus WOO HOO!!

Breaking 300,000 on the original Pacman is tough, even if you're using patterns. It's even tougher on Pacman Plus. Forget about patterns since the fruit acts like an energizer and makes the monsters move randomly for a few seconds. Also the energizers sometimes only turn 3 of the monsters blue. You never know when only 3 will change or which one will remain its normal color. Pacman Plus is a serious challenge and I've spent years trying break this barrier.

 

My final score was 317,940 and I made it to the 10th pancake (same as the 10th key. I've attached a zip of the .inp file below. You'll probably need Mame32 .90 to play it back.

The most i could ever get was 263 something thousand after the 1st pattern (123,000 then switch-up to 2nd pattern). After that I was on my own and running for my life!

BTW Hepcat, you should really post that on http://marp.retrogames.com/ to immortalize it - I only have two entries; one for Pac Man Plus and the other for Ms Pac Man.

Shortly after I broke 300,000 I did check out the MARP website in hopes of getting my score posted there. I e-mailed someone at the site who told me that they would post the score but that it couldn't be verified as an "official" score because I was using plain old Mame32. They told me I needed to use a build called Wolfmame which supposedly makes cheating almost impossible.

 

So I got Wolfmame windows version.94 and for the several weeks I've been trying to break 300K again. I finally did it last night with a score of 300,320. I was a little less aggressive chasing monsters on the earlier screens than I usually am so I missed several 1600 and 3200 point monsters. But I did make it to the 11th pancake this time, one screen further than before.

 

Hopefully my new score will be posted on MARP soon.

That's quite a score...I never liked Pac-Man Plus as much as the original...I need to give it another go.

I used to like it when it was in the arcades because it was so different. Way to go man, my hi-score is only 117,000 (approx)

 

I love the arcade version of Super Pac-Man as well but I haven't had any luck duplicating the controls on MAME even with a Hotrod. The game is too fast for anything but the original cabinet controls.
