Stingray #1 Posted February 11, 2005 Picked up a Gangster Alley cart last night. Looks like the one pictured here: http://www.atariage.com/cart_page.html?Sof...wareLabelID=204 Except it says Spectravideo across the top instead of Spectravision. Can anyone shed any light on this variation for me? -S
sku_u #2 Posted February 11, 2005 Most Spectravision games were released in Canada and Europe as Spectravideo carts. They are slightly less common than their Spectravision counterparts. There were also a few that were only released as Spectravideo carts like Bumper Bash and Mangia.
The MilkMan #3 Posted February 11, 2005 Good find! I love this game. I never heard about it before I got into collecting. For me, Spectravision titles have been really hard to find in the wild. In fact Gangster Alley is the only Spectravision title I have!
Stingray #4 Posted February 11, 2005 Thanks for the info on that. I probably wouldn't even have noticed, but I bought another Specratvision cart at the same time that was labled as Spectravision. -S
Lord Helmet #5 Posted February 11, 2005 The Spectravision carts are some of my favorites. I don't really know why except maybe it's the shape of the cart. Quite unique.
sku_u #6 Posted February 11, 2005 The Spectravision carts are some of my favorites. I don't really know why except maybe it's the shape of the cart. Quite unique. Most of their titles are a lot of fun to play as well. Bumper Bash, for example, has the best ball physics of the 3 pinball sims for the Atari and uses the buttons on the paddle controllers to operate the flippers and Gas Hog is Moon Patrol x10. NovaXpress #7 Posted February 11, 2005 You gotta love Cross Force and Challenge of Nexar (which I recall had been announced by 20th Century Fox, indicating that the game was programmed outside of corporate control and sold to the highest bidder). I second that with Gas Hog, I was lucky enough to recieve it as a gift on the Secret Santa, and I have been playing it a lot. Definitely a fun game!
