chrisbid #1 Posted February 12, 2005 i recently played this for the first time in MAME, and was quite impressed. it successfully fused the feel of Pitfall II with the cartoonish look of Sega Arcade games from the Mid 80's. I wonder how difficult it would be for a Segaphile to port this to the Master System, it would seem to me that a SMS homebrews/repros would be easy to produce on Sega Cards, so long as the games were small enough. video game addict #3 Posted February 12, 2005 It looks as if Harry got lost in the Fantasy Zone.
Lauren Tyler #4 Posted February 12, 2005 If I knew how to program, I'd do a remake of this version of the game. Unfortunately, I don't know how to write games yet...
yuppicide #5 Posted February 12, 2005 I don't know about you, but I like the original better. Whoever said it, yep, looks like he got lost in the Fantasy Zone.
Feralstorm #6 Posted February 13, 2005 Arcade Pitfall II is incredibly annoying and wrong in my eyes. It does have 'the' music though.
intvgene #7 Posted February 13, 2005 The Sega SG-1000 version is quite cool. It's the only home version of the arcade game that I know of... I want to beat it someday, but you only get two lives to do the entire game, without continues. It's damn hard. I wonder if Opcode could port the SG-1000 version to the Colecovision someday? chrisbid #8 Posted February 13, 2005 you mean there is an SG 1000 version out there? wow, but am i correct in assuming that sg1000 games do not work on US master systems?
intvgene #9 Posted February 13, 2005 You can see the pics of the SG-1000 game here: http://www.vgmuseum.com/images/sg1000/pitfa.html AFAIK, Sega Mycards (including Pitfall II) from Japan will not work on a US SMS system.
yuppicide #10 Posted February 13, 2005 That SG version looks like Fantasy Zone also. Pure crap.
chrisbid #11 Posted February 13, 2005 That SG version looks like Fantasy Zone also. Pure crap. pure crap would be Super Pitfall for the NES, at least this version keeps the gameplay of the original
Stingray #12 Posted February 14, 2005 Add the Pitfall : Mayan Adventure or whatever it was called to the pure crap pile. -S
Goochman #13 Posted February 14, 2005 Add the Pitfall : Mayan Adventure or whatever it was called to the pure crap pile. -S I kind of enjoyed the Jag version of this.
rockman_x_2002 #14 Posted February 14, 2005 Add the Pitfall : Mayan Adventure or whatever it was called to the pure crap pile. -S I kind of enjoyed the Jag version of this. Same as I do. Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure salvaged a little enjoyability. Okay' date=' sure, it wasn't anything like the original [i']Pitfall[/i], granted. But it still made for a nice platformer. Super Pitfall, on the other hand, remains to be a festering crap heap. Even under another name, this game wouldn't fly.
NovaXpress #15 Posted February 14, 2005 Super Pitfall is to the NES what Skeet Shoot is to the 2600.
Stingray #16 Posted February 14, 2005 Hmm. I guess I'm the only one who thought the Mayan Adventure sucked. Maybe it's just that I'm no good at it. -S
joeybastard #17 Posted February 14, 2005 Hmm. I guess I'm the only one who thought the Mayan Adventure sucked. Maybe it's just that I'm no good at it. -S Nope, I agree. It sucks. it's not as bad as Super Pitfall but it definitely sucks.
NovaXpress #18 Posted February 14, 2005 Yes, Mayan Adventure sucked. But Super Pitfall was historically terrible.
chrisbid #19 Posted February 14, 2005 did anyone else notice that super pitfall stole the sprite animation from Super Mario Bros, its a shameless theft at that.
+KaeruYojimbo #20 Posted February 14, 2005 Changing the subject back to Pitfall II arcade, it was at least better than the arcade versions of Lode Runner.
Stingray #21 Posted February 14, 2005 I actually like the arcade Lode Runner. -S
Goochman #22 Posted February 14, 2005 Arcade Loed Runner was pretty good - almost faithful to the computer version - it was pretty easy though IMHO
The Eidolon #23 Posted February 15, 2005 I liked Pitfall II arcade. It wasn't quite as good as the original, but stilll largely retained the pitfall "feel." I was so excited when I first saw one in an arcade, but never had much chance to play it at the time. Now thanks to MAME I've finished the thing. I even mapped out the levels to see how they interconnected. Random trivia: the top section in the first level is four times wider than the underground sections. Even though you see area beneath you while traversing the top section, it's just the same map repeating.... --The Eidolon
