Stelladaptor and MacMame not working

Recommended Posts

I just received a Stelladaptor to use with MacMame. I am not able to get it to work. It recognizes up/down but not right/left. I'm using it with a known good Wico Redball joystick and the USB cable that came with the Stelladaptor plugged into the front port on my Mac.

I've checked it with Appple's Joystick and Gamepad Tester and it appears to be working correctly.

In MacMame the response when I configure MAME Digital Joystick 1 is:

(Up) Stelladaptor 2600-to-USB Interface:#(V:1240, P:48879, U:1:48)#

(Down) Stelladaptor 2600-to-USB Interface:#(V:1240, P:48879, U:1:48)#

(Left) Stelladaptor 2600-to-USB Interface:#(V:1240, P:48879, U:1:49)#

(Right) Stelladaptor 2600-to-USB Interface:#(V:1240, P:48879, U:1:49)#

And for the Button1:

Stelladaptor 2600-to-USB Interface:#(V:1240, P:48879, U:9:

I'm using MacMame version 0.87b.

I have a PowerMac dual 2.0 GHz running Mac OS X 10.3.4.

The Stelladaptor seems to work fine with other programs such as Toppler and SuperTux. The directions work with Freedroid but the fire button shoots when it should turn the droid red.

How can I get the Stelladaptor to work properly with MacMame?

Thanks for your help.

I've responded to you via email regarding this, but wanted to post it here as well..

It appears that something has changed with the latest version of MacMAME that has completely broken Stelladaptor support. I don't know why this is yet, and hope that whatever was done to the latest version of MacMAME can be undone and/or fixed. I also use the Stelladaptor with my OS X machines, but generally run classic gaming emulators such as Stella OS X (for the 2600), Mugrat (for the ColecoVision) and Atari800MacX (for the 5200 and 8-bit computers). It wasn't until very recently when someone else brought the issue with MacMAME to me that I downloaded the latest version of MacMAME and discovered that indeed, something is amiss.

I am going to try to work with the MacMAME author(s) to get this problem resolved. If you don't want to wait, I would be glad to refund your purchase of the Stelladaptor, since it was advertised as working with MacMAME (I need to update the store to reflect that this is not the case at the moment). I will try to keep everyone up to date as to the status of this problem as well as any resolution. I apologize for the problems you are having, and hope it's something that can be corrected quickly.

I just downloaded the 0.88 beta and it works fine with the Stelladaptor. Paddle games seem a bit flakey, though, in that in some games I can't move all the way to the left or right (such as in Arkanoid). Not sure what's up with that, but then again, it is a beta. At least the joysticks work fine now, which is a blessing. You can download MacMAME 0.88 here.

I'm not sure if this will help or not but it might worth a shot. There's newer version of MacMAME out. You can get it HERE.

The only thing is you have to compile it.

Somebody did take the take to compile the thing and you can get it, HERE
