has anybody done this with robotron.

Recommended Posts

Everyone knows that 7800 robotron is great but the problem is that the you need to use both controllers. Has anyone else used legos to link them together. It works great but you have to use 2600 controllers. They fit perfectly green grass squars.

You don't NEED two controllers, but it is pretty unplayable with just one after about the third wave since you can only fire in the direction in which you are running. If you want a good Robotron play get the 5200 version. The graphics are only slightly better on the 7800 and the control is 100 times better on the 5200 with the dual joystick holder.

You know, a good idea for a hack would be to replace Robotron's control scheme with the one from say, Llamatron. The way that worked, you would always be firing, and the fire button would let you move without changing the direction of your fire.

Or since there are two buttons, one could fire normally and the other could fire in a constant direction. Anything would be better than the existing controls...

Not only can you play it with one controller, but I actually like it that way. The 7800 version, in fact, is one of the few conversions with a playable one-stick mode. In all of the Digital Eclipse conversions, you can't stop firing, which is a Bad Thing because you dont want to accidentally shoot the last robot when you're scooping up the bonus humans.

On the default difficulty level, I can usually get over 600K, but one time a few years ago I managed to get 1.2M points.

I enjoy one-stick Robotron as well, and can manage a million-point score on a good day.

Only other possible control scheme I could see worth implementing would be the 'constant fire, and hold button to lock direction' seen in Jeff Minter's Llamatron.

Does anyone remember the Apple II robotron control sceme? It used both buttons, it's been so long since I've played it that I don't remember exactly how it works but I remember thinking that every version should control that way.

What I'd like to see is someone hack a PAL version of the game so I can actually play it here!

I enjoy 2-player Robotron action with one player handling the firing and the other handling the moving. Great fun.

Say what? There's no PAL version of 7800 Robotron? Wow. I guess all it would need is a longer DLL for compatibility, and then you'd have to mess with who knows what to fix the timing so that it's not 20% slower.

Yeah, Robotron never got a PAL release on the 7800. Along with the all time European favorites Touchdown Football and RealSports Baseball. :D

Let's see, rounding out the list are Summer and Winter Games, Rampage, Water Ski and Tank Command.

Yep, can't even play it at all, it crashes when you reach the title screen.

Yeah so do I. I got the Midway volume 2 and thougth the colors on the arcade robotron are too similar and it was hard to tell everything apart.
