Thelen #1 Posted January 4, 2002 today i've tried to play Videolife on the Z26 emulator, and i've read the manual of videolife but i cant do anything (i can control the dot and reset it and it counts, but i always have that dirt screen when it starts) or is it a special cartridge with ram or so ? so that the rom only won't work? who know how to play ?? Thelen #2 Posted January 4, 2002 i've downloaded the newest version of Z26 and tried it....and it worked !!!! but why, does the cart have some ram onboard ?? when it is so who can tell me about the bank(ram) switching adresses etc. TheleN
slapdash #3 Posted January 4, 2002 I think the RAM is to store the game state as video RAM essentially. Don't know for sure though.
Eckhard Stolberg #4 Posted January 4, 2002 The VCS only has 128 bytes of RAM. There is no way to remember the state of that many pixels without adding more RAM. Video Life doesn't use bankswitching. It has 2K of ROM at $1800-$1FFF and 1K of RAM at $1000-$17FF. $1000-$13FF is used for reading and $ 1400-$17FF is used for writing.
