Pong In A Barrel Info required!

Can anyone tell me anything about the Pong-in-a-Barrel system? What year was it made/ How many were made?

Looks like someone took the guts of an original Pong machine and hacked it into a barrel. Who knows for sure when they did that.

Pong-in-a-Barrel was in one of their brochures, so presumably it's the real thing.

Noone got any info on how many were produced, or when?

 

There seems to be no info on the net at all on them, even KLOV has none (doesn't surprise me - hideously innaccurate sometimes!!)

That barrel thing was an original concept drawn up by Regan Cheng at Atari. Here is one of his original sketches when Chuck E Cheese was first concieved.

The person who hosts the Killer List Of Videogames and the International Arcade Museum won the auction. Damn bastard has a buttload of games including a few (I think 4 or 5) Computer Spaces!

This Pong-in-a -Barrel thing got me wondering what the details were so I emailed Regan Cheng to ask if he remembered these and he gave me this little bit of additional info -

 

Hi Justin ,

Atari was manufacturing these "Barrel Pong's" right before I arrived on the

scene. Pete Takaichi and I worked on these a little, one of our first projects. I

wonder who sold it. These units were pretty messy inside , at least the

earlier units were. They had fiberglas in the inside.
