eggplant_casserole #1 Posted February 28, 2005 Can anyone tell me anything about the Pong-in-a-Barrel system? What year was it made/ How many were made? Here is what I mean: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...8171323786&rd=1 Also seen on: [ure]http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&subpage=flyer&id=3303&image=1[/url]
Gregory DG #2 Posted February 28, 2005 Looks like someone took the guts of an original Pong machine and hacked it into a barrel. Who knows for sure when they did that.
ttblair #3 Posted February 28, 2005 I was eyeing that when it was stalled at $80.00. Pong-in-a-Barrel was in one of their brochures, so presumably it's the real thing.
Artlover #4 Posted February 28, 2005 Makes me think of some backwoods hicktown deep in the bayou somewhere where they still don't have phone service. Zeek: "And over younder, nexta Ed's Chicken Wings & Taxidermy, we've got our all modern like arcade" Walk over to a barn with "rkayd" painted on the side, and there's Pong in a Barrel. eggplant_casserole #5 Posted March 1, 2005 Hehehe. I did actually post a pic of the brochure, for those who would doubt it. However, my typing sucked and I can't edit my post! here it is again: http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&...id=3303&image=1 Noone got any info on how many were produced, or when? There seems to be no info on the net at all on them, even KLOV has none (doesn't surprise me - hideously innaccurate sometimes!!)
tillenterprises #6 Posted March 1, 2005 $4,550! Why do I see a whole bunch of MAME barrel cabinets coming to eBay?
Ferris #7 Posted March 1, 2005 That barrel thing was an original concept drawn up by Regan Cheng at Atari. Here is one of his original sketches when Chuck E Cheese was first concieved.
Dr Galaga #8 Posted March 2, 2005 There was some discussion on the KLOV board about this: http://forums.webmagic.com/ubbthreads/show...sb=5&o=&fpart=1 The person who hosts the Killer List Of Videogames and the International Arcade Museum won the auction. Damn bastard has a buttload of games including a few (I think 4 or 5) Computer Spaces!
Ferris #9 Posted March 2, 2005 This Pong-in-a -Barrel thing got me wondering what the details were so I emailed Regan Cheng to ask if he remembered these and he gave me this little bit of additional info - Hi Justin , Atari was manufacturing these "Barrel Pong's" right before I arrived on the scene. Pete Takaichi and I worked on these a little, one of our first projects. I wonder who sold it. These units were pretty messy inside , at least the earlier units were. They had fiberglas in the inside. Regan
Stingray #10 Posted March 4, 2005 Interesting item. I can't believe it's really worth that much, but stranger things have happened I guess. -S
