HOW MUCH IS THIS WORTH?

Recommended Posts

I have the opportunit to purchase a MAME machine from some in town who wants to get rid of theres. It was built 2 years ago. Here's some of the details:

Ther cabinet is constructed using the Ultimate Arcade Plans, using 3/4" MDO, and widened slightly to accommodate a 27" TV. The top hutch is painted in a deep blue, the bottom half is painted in black. The whole cabinet is trimmed in silver moulding.

The control panel has 2 Happs 8 way joysticks, and 7 buttons for each player, along with a set of option buttons at the top. All the buttons were cannibalised from an X-Arcade. These connected through a IPAC32 (usb and ps2). It also includes a Happs USB Trackball. The control panel itself has a custom design (see below for a better picture), and is covered in a lexan sheet.

There is a working coin door, which can be connected to the IPAC and the lights have been wired to run off of a computer power supply. There is also a pushbutton switch on the front left which is wired to turn on the computer inside.

The computer it's running on is an Athlon XP2000, 256 Ram, 20G Hard Drive, DVDROM, and a Geforce 2MX video card. The video card is run through a TView Gold PCI card, which automatically rescales all resolutions to 480i for TV output (MUCH better than a straight S-Video connection). There is also a sheet of smoked plexiglass which fits exactly into the monitor opening.

The motherboard and drives are mounted on the inside back wall of the cabinet.

The speakers are scavenged from an old sound system, but there are two speakers underneath the marquee, and a subwoofer, with volume control on top of the cabinet.

The cabinet isn't perfect by a longshot - the sound system, for example, could probably afford to be ripped out and redone, but it all works well (albeit a bit messy).

Thats the info I have from him. He wants to keep the TV which isn't a problem and no Roms or Operating system will be on the computer. With being new to the whole MAME aspect of arcades I really don't know what to offer. I do know what the price of a 27" TV will be and an operating system and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

500 bucks tops..less if possible. And if he scoffs at a cash and carry deal walk away from it because you can always build your own for about the same price. Also.. if he has a truck have him help you move it as part of the deal.

I would agree, no more than $500, especially if you are stuck completely redoing the software. Even with an Ipac, you're looking at a good weekend of work, between installation of the os and the games.

You really think its worth 500. I really don't think its worth that much then again I could be wrong. I just think between the purchase of a Television and having to redo software its not worth 500. But I'm new at this so I'll take your guys advice.

yea he tole me 400 which I thought was high until I read your guy's replies. I offered 300 last night and told him I didn't want to spend much more. Haven't heard back since then so hopefully I can get it for 300-350.

Just remember, Mame machines aren't difficult to build. Plus if you build it it will be exactly they way you want it.
