Non Working Baby Pac.. should I go for it?

Recommended Posts

Guy's asking $150. I haven't seen it in person yet... says there's a problem with the video board due to battery corrosion.

Seems to me the chance to pick up one of these even in non working condition is too good to pass up. Any thoughts?

He also has a DK cocktail he's asking $500 for, and it doesn't display the ladders properly. Sounds like some chips might need reseating, so probably an easy fix, but isn't this a little steep?

Stay away from the Baby Pac, unless you are a highly qualified tech. They break down ALL the time. I had 4 break on me while playing through the years, I was able to get the ball to bounce off so many things so fast that I would blow boards. They just weren't heavy duty enough for real good players. It might cost you $500 to get it working again. Save your money and hit an auction (if you can) and get a few good working games for the money you would spend on Baby Pac. Good luck trying to find someone to work on it also. I would call around to a few repair places and you might get lucky and find someone who might know some good/fast/reliable techniques on working on these.

Side note: I (my parents) bought a record jukebox for $100 and it worked intermittently. I called just about all the repair shops and some(most) even told me that it would cost a minimum of $400 to fix the certain problem I had or wouldn't even touch it. One of the last on the list I talked to a tech and he knew them well and said it would cost $65 to fix and he would come to me to fix it. The next day he came over, 15 minutes later (including the warming of his soldering iron) it was fixed and he even set it on free play for me and he showed me how to fix it later (which helped and I need to do again, easy but common problem). If you have seen (or going to see) the Starsky & Hutch movie with Ben Stiller, you could see the same jukebox in the background of the bar scene.

Where the hell is Xot from anyway?

Even back in the day, I never once say a Baby Pac that was working.

Xot is from central Vermont, thought that was pretty well known around here. ;)

This particular machine is in Hinesburg, VT. It doesn't look good for transporting it right now, though. :(

For $150, I'm pretty sure I'd buy it, even though they are notoriously difficult to keep in working order.

The PinMAME version is quite good, though I had to change the angle of the flippers cause it was almost impossible to hit the drop targets on top.
